I like voting -- but I still prefer to be picked by the asker. At least I can see if they leave a comment that shows what I answered actually helped.
I will vote on anything and everything. I will choose my own answer, but only if I truly think it IS best. Otherwise, I will choose someone else's -- and LEARN from it, if I can.

It is far more satisfying to me to be selected the Best Answer than to get it from the vote. When people do not pick an answer, it usually means they are not interested in what people have done to try and help. The questioners who advertise '10 points' or '5 stars' almost never select a Best Answer.
There are many cases where I feel an absurd choice has been made for Best Answer, and this is sometimes to my detriment, though on other occasions I get the Best Answer when really I shouldn't. A good while ago I jokingly asked what the appeal procedure was for an incorrect choice of Best Answer. Some people surprisingly seemed to think it was a serious question.
I do vote on questions I have not answered, especially if I find a good answer to a maths question where I attempted a solution but failed to get the result. If an answer is genuinely better than mine in both technique and explanation I do vote for it, provided the question is not a trivial one with 10 or more answers.

If I'm the only one who has answered the question, I usually vote for myself. If most of the answers to the question are the same, I vote for the first answer. Other times I take into account the thumbs up and down for eachanswer.
I used to vote on questions I didn't answer... but then I thought there was no point in voting for answers that I didn't know. I mean, I don't want to be the sole voter to a question providing the wrong "best answer".
There are so many reasons why someone doesn't pick a best answer, that they have to be taken into account. The overwhelming response, the fact that they're a one-time only user, the repetitveness of the answers. I'm just happy to try to resolve them!
