Salem's Lot by Stephen King. It was so creepy that I slept with all the lights on for a month.

    IT - Stephen King

    and

The Elementals by Michael McDowell. It's about a creepy house but it's more than just the normal haunted house thing it's very creepy.

Oh and Walkers by Graham Masterton. The ending of this really let the book down but until then reading it was just scary. It's about an old building that used to be an insane asylum and the patients all disappeared one night.

It by Stephen King. I was a teenager when I read it and I could not put it down, I never really liked clowns and I now I don't like them! haha It's a good book, worth reading again. I love the way King pulls you along and sets you up. The Tommyknockers was like that also. It was pretty scarry but not as good as It.

The Bible is pretty scarry also, but there is hope and forgiveness also!!

"It was on a dreary night of November that I beheld the accomplishment of my toils. With an anxiety that almost amounted to agony, I collected the instruments of life around me, that I might infuse a spark of being into the lifeless thing that lay at my feet. It was already one in the morning; the rain pattered dismally against the panes, and my candle was nearly burnt out, when, by the glimmer of the half-extinguished light, I saw the dull yellow eye of the creature open; it breathed hard, and a convulsive motion agitated its limbs."

Definitely Frankenstein, my dear. Never again will revenge be so devastating.

    The Stand - Stephen King

I started reading it back in the summer of 1995. I started to get so freaked out every time someone around me coughed that I had to stop reading it. I still have not gone back to finish it and the bookmark is right where I left it over a decade ago.

    Jaws, The Exorcist, Red Dragon.

Red Dragon by Thomas Harris was far creepier than Silence of the Lambs or Hannibal.

Funny - my answer would also be Stephen King. I was in high school when I read "It". Was so scary, I slept in bed with my mother for a week! Don't bother with the movie, though, unless you like total made for t.v. movie cheese.

It Happened to Nancy by anonymous teenager.

It was a about a 14 year old girl that got date raped by her college age boyfriend and left with infected with HIV! Its written from her diary from falling in love, to the rape, and then dealing with AIDS...all of this is based on a true story. I felt truly horrified.

"I am the cheese" by Robert Cormier. It's terrifying in a subtle way... and it definitely makes you want to keep turning the pages.
