Tanning FDA laws... is it true?
I once belonged to a tanning salon that required you show your goggles prior to tanning, stating that it was the law that you wear goggles while tanning. Ok, I buy that because the rays can cause damage to your eyes, if unprotected.
Last night I decided to switch it up, and went to mystic tan (spray on tan). They had the nerve to tell me that it was required by the FDA that I buy goggles to mystic tan. I would also need to buy a nose plug, and an additional mouth guard to prevent inhaling chemicals. They also said I should buy a $5 lotion packet to enhance my mystic tan.
My question is, is that true, or is it a scheme to make extra money? It seems that if it was required by law to use something for "safety" purposes, that the business would have to provide it for their customers.

I don't know but I think that if they actually said "it's required by law" it would be illegal for them to even say that if it wasnt true.

Sounds like a scam. I used Mystic Tan all last year and never showed anything. I did not wear goggles, but I did buy my own nose plugs (actually, I used 2 small, foam ear plugs in my nostrils) and a lotion will help your tan go on more evenly and last longer. Be sure to especially moisturize your knees and elbows. Also, shower and exfoliate before tanning to have your skin as even as possible. I never used a mouth guard - just close your mouth and inhale between sprays.
Any laws about tanning should be in writing over the counter. I would try a different salon if I were you.

It is true if you tan in a tanning bed to use googles how ever I have not heard that must purchase googles, nose plugs, and a mouth guard. I just tried Mystic Tan about a month ago and was told to hold my breath and close my eyes. if you wear goggles whild mystic tanning you will have white circles around your eyes. I did not like mystic tan anyway I came out looking like crap and could not wear shorts or flip flops for 10 days until it wore off. I thing they were trying to get more money from you.

I have never heard of that before, but it depends on the state you live in what the rules are. I live in Arizona and I Mystic tan all the time and have never had to wear goggles, a nose plug or a mouth piece. I don't think they even sell them either! You might wanna check out your states FDA restrictions.

That's a good question. Last week when I went tanning, they tried to tell me to buy goggles, but i was only there for one tan, because I'm testing out the salons in my area to find the one i like, and they just gave me these little disposable ones. I think they are just trying to get money out of you, and that's ridiculous that they wanted you to buy that lotion.

To actually buy all they suggested, I'm guessing they're just trying to get more cash out of you.
