That's why people in there have been debating over illegal immigrants on a daily basis. These illegals mess you up big time, so it's difficult for INS to judge who is honest who is not. Not too long ago, Denver INS along with some polices have caught a fraud business that helps matching US citizens with whoever that needs to be legal. Those are fake marriage and I guess it has become a big business now in this country where some illegals try to take an easy route by marring a citizen. I hope this explains to you why your paperworks take forever. It is pretty discouraging and can be annoying I know, but hope that by you doing the right thing will be well worth it at the end of the day. Goodluck!!!

  • I'm not only married to an American but have supported a family of four (including my American wife and two American children) for years now with my post-graduate professional license. I have been married to my American wife for 9 years now and have had common finances for over 10. I speak English better than the average American (as well as accentless) plus Spanish and French - and, frankly, at this point I wish the INS would just come out and flat out turned me down for citizenship so at least I'm no longer in limbo (wouldn't change my working status as long as I'm married to my American wife and if, God forbid, we ever get divorced I would - other than our children - not have a damned reason in the world to stay in America so work authorization status would very much be a moot point).

Mostly what I resent is the paternalistic attitude by some Americans. Folks, I couldn't give a crap whether I stay or go but I'm simply staying because my wife is an only child and her mom won't move back to Europe with us. I am not here for the American dream, I am not a wide-eyed immigrant from a third-world country, and frankly I believe our European standard of living for the average joe is superior.....and yet I have taught my kids the pledge of allegiance and encouraged in them a love for America. After all that, America rewards me with the EXACT SAME treatment as if I'd just gotten off the boat and had never attended college in this country or established lifelong relationships. I'll give it another year, after that this country can have all the unskilled latins it wants but I'll officially renounce any further efforts to pursue my citizenship (after all, I'm nobody's slave and look forward to regaining control of my life).

can't tell you for sure and don't know how long you've been here & from where but if you arrived shortly before/after 9/11, all papers to be processed have been inspected even closer. i just dislike blaming everything on 9/11 but face it folks. it was a major event in american history. looking back at a similar event, after pearl harbor in 1941, all people applying for citizenship was detained & papers derailed for some time. you had the internment camps set up all over the remote parts of the us. the p.o.w. camps were constructed & running full blast, etc. dramatic events always speeds up in one direction & slows down in others. welcome to america where americans are known for many things; one being we are NEVER prepared!

To be ordinary a great variety of the regulations have replaced. particular the criminal expert might desire to be purely taking your cash. yet whilst it comes all the way down to it a 6 3 hundred and sixty 5 days overstay is undesirable information. you're certainly extra unlawful interior the eyes of immigration (interview smart as properly) than a individual who purely hopped the border and married. many times you get what you pay for. in case you low-priced out you may desire to get booted for 10 years and it won't be counted while you're married. maximum suitable element to do is to stay on the criminal expert and discover out precisely what he's doing. in case you could it might desire to be extra ordinary and extra fee-effective so which you will return domicile and have your companion save on with for you.

Wait until they pass this new bill, if you think the wait time is long now.

The new bill will require head of households who are illegal to still return to their country and start over. I kind of think it is funny because everyone thinks they are going to just pay a fine and be legal. That is only the beginning. You should pray that the bill does not pass. Especially if you are the head of household.

Patience. It does take some time. All (legal) immigrants have to go through the same waiting process. I commend you and thank you for doing it the legal way.

thanks for taking the legal way or somewhat :) but its probably back logged because of all of the events happening right now... why immigration is about to have 20 million people to give free citizenship to (i know its not completely free but it might as well be)

You're learning quick. American bureaucracy moves at 3 speeds, slow, slower, not at all.

    Don't get discouraged, good luck.

I think there is some kind of backlog.....Just be patient, it will come....When my husband applied four years ago, he got his green card pretty fast (6 months)....
