Computer doesn't always power up. What's wrong?

Gateway, less than a year old, doesn't always power up after being on power/screen saver mode. Screen remains blank and the computer fan speed increases but the primary blue power light doesn't come on and there is no screen activity. At first I could restart the computer, but now even that doesn't always work. What do I need to look at and/or repair? Thanks.

Go to the reference link and fill out the form to chat with a Gateway technician. I would say the problem is the power supply but you did not specify what model you had. Anways the Gateway technician should have a solution for your problem.

I believe all gateways come with a 1 year warranty. so tell them whats wrong and ask them if they could replace your motherboard and/or PSU for you. Id blame it on one of these things. Possibly the hardware your system has does not support standby? (I had an old toshiba that didnt, and the option is always visible in windows, so yes, there are features some people can see that they cant use. Ironic).

Another option would be using your system restore disc to make sure you dont have a bad install of windows. Im not talking about any crappy recovery partition, if they only have that on your hard drive for you, call them and demand a system restore disc. There free under warranty/$15-20 out of warranty. Depending on how much time it would take you to resrore your files and reinstall your non factory installed programs, you might want to try this in reverse order and do the motherboard and whatnot last.

Your system is in hibernation or a standby mode. Go to properties by right clicking on the desktop and click screen saver and check your power mode settings.

Power down completely and power back up to check the settings.
