  • Redskins lost by 21. Anyone find that interesting?

The Redskin players and the sports media made such a big deal over the Redskins beating the Cowboys by 21 points (Sean Taylor's number), yet I've not heard one sports commentator question the same irrational logic when the next week the Redskins lose by 21 points. If the win by 21 was a heavenly sign from above, then what does the 21 point loss mean?

  • Computer doesn't always power up. What's wrong?

Gateway, less than a year old, doesn't always power up after being on power/screen saver mode. Screen remains blank and the computer fan speed increases but the primary blue power light doesn't come on and there is no screen activity. At first I could restart the computer, but now even that doesn't always work. What do I need to look at and/or repair? Thanks.

  • If I call myself a fideist, what does that mean?

Go ahead and use a dictionary, especially the ones who gave me thumbs down on an earlier question.

  • Why do Christians typically fail to use inclusive language?

On my previous question, I noticed many references to God judging men, etc. Does this let women off the hook when it comes to God's judgment or is it the fact that most Christian believers have little understanding about how to properly exegete the scriptures they love to recite (oh, the damage old King James did to the Greek and Hebrew language to justify his divorce)? Or finally, is it just the perpetuation of past and present misogynistic attitudes towards women in general? This is especially interesting given the biblical fact that Jesus crossed the social barriers of his time to be inclusive of women so that they, too, could be empowered!

  • Is posting on the R&S section really glorifying your God?

Or is it just a media to post your glorified theological and ideological opinions?

  • Will Cowher coach the Cowboys in 2008?

What do the think the chances are that Bill Cowher will take a year away from the game and then replace Parcells as the Cowboy's head coach? Parcells may or may not return for 2007, but I think he'll coach one more year and then retire. Thoughts?

  • What is the purpose of this forum? Are we just bored with life?

It seems that religious and non-religious people alike come here daily to ask silly questions to get even sillier responses. Few seem genuinely sincere and open-minded to intelligent opinions and mainly want to justify their static positions. So in that light, what does supporting this faceless forum say about the state of our society and us as individuals?

  • How naive is our current leadership?

Yahoo News states the following: "Hailed by Washington as a milestone for Iraqi democracy, Saddam's execution seems to have deepened sectarian divisions." Duh! Did they really think that by religiously taunting Saddam on video before hanging him that this punishment would promote peace and harmony?

  • People of faith, what giants do you battle with?

I'm coming from the perspective of identifying, facing, and conquering the gaints we face in life. David faced Goliath and was victorious. Personally, I have battled with depression at various times in my life. So my primary question is this: What giants do you battle with in this life? Serious comments, please.

  • Sinner or Saint?

People commonly call fellow Christians sinners all the time, but rarely are they called saints. Catholics reserve the term saint for a posthumous recognition of one's earthly work. Yet scripture refers to believers on earth as saints. To confuse matters more, the OT definition of sinner was "one found guilty before God," and the NT definition is "to miss the mark and not share in the prize." Since forgiveness of sin and eternal life with God is the Christian prize, how can Christians call a believer a sinner (they're not going to heaven) and still profess them as a fellow believer? It's not paradoxical either. Frankly, it's imposing the English language onto the Hebrew and Greek languages of the Bible which distorts God's message of deliverance. What do you think?

  • Do you as Christians adhere to literal or symbolic interpretation of Bible?

Jesus said to deal strongly with your sin, like cut off your hand or gouge out your eye. Gospel of Mark ends with drinking poison and handling venomous snakes. If the Bible says these things, then why haven't I seen literalist Christians obeying God's Word?

  • ATMs in church?

I just read in the paper that churches are using ATMs to receive donations. The pastor who originated this concept called them "Automatic Tithe Machines." What is the forum's take on this concept?

  • Doesn't context matter in interpreting the Bible?

For instance, the pagan story -- Epic of Gilgamesh -- historically preceded the book of Genesis by hundreds if not thousands of years. It was being forced upon the captive Jews in Babylon (the diaspora) and the book of Genesis was written in a somewhat parallel matter to turn their pagan story of multiple gods into a one god story -- Yahweh. Therefore, if we read the pagan story, how can we be so silly as to believe that Genesis was to be interpreted literally and not figuratively?
