I'm all for free enterprise. That is the American way. However, in this case, the government is going to need to step in and exact a surcharge on the profits from gasoline sells.

For example, the government has numerous regulations on the dissemination of television signals. They are continually modifying rules to control the cable bills.

They need to do the same thing with gasoline prices.

And, of course, we all need to come to the realization that we need alternate energy sources (nuclear, wind, solar, hydrogen...) to meet our transportation and energy needs.

The government can subsidize these efforts also. But, the bottom line is that each individual must make his own individual sacrifice and his own individual commitment to alternative transportation methods and vehicles.

We can force the government to act. We just don't currently have the collective will to do it.

yes been asking that question myself. It sounds good on theory but like most things,in REAL life it isn"t practicable, our country is going to get in a decline over this as like you say half of hourly wage for one gallon of gas just isn"t fair.Well instead of vacation this year you might take a weekend trip shorter distance?Or see some local sights you may of missed before?Hopefully you will not run out of gas on the expwy. This answer ain"t much, luck to you.
