Rock music recommendations for a stubborn listener...?
Okay, I need some musical therapy... since the 90's, I have lost hope for originality and have been stuck in time... For those who can match my interests and give me some new hope in contemporary rock, I will reward with so many stars that it will take two whole hands to count them.
Please note, I like unique voiced/original rock sounds... do not reply with lip-sync music, fake drum beats, or guitarless dreck... here are some bands/artists I do like: Aimee Mann, Pearl Jam, Audioslave/Soundgarden, Juliana Hatfield, Weezer, Monster Magnet, Sponge, Elvis Costello, Velvet Revolver...
More recent: Tally Hall, Tenacious D, Black Market Radio...

You've probably heard of Incubus, if not you are most definitely missing out. The base of their sound is that they are mostly hard rock, but at the same time they are very experimental a bit off the beaten path. There aren't many bands out there that can mesh with a DJ spinning and mixing, yet jam like a rock band. Incubus throws a lot of different sounds and subtle styles at you, and make them all work well together.
The lyrics can also be abstract, but I also think they can be pretty good too. The guitar player Mike Einzinger I think is also one of the better guitar players out there, especially if you listen to some of the tracks of Incubus's 2 most recent albums, A Crow Left of the Murder, and Light Grenades.
I think if you also like good vocals, a band called Shinedown is probably a good fit for you. They are a hard rockin band that can break out the guitar. Brent Smith also has a powerful voice like Chris Cornell. All though the sound of Brent's voice is different, I think Shinedown is probably the only artist other than Chris Cornell himself that could actually pull off a decent cover on the right Soundgarden song. Just my opinion.
I like Shinedown because in today's market their sound and style is a bit of a throwback to that of 90s rock like STP, Soundgarden, etc.

Since you are interested in more current bands to try, check out Coheed and Cambria, Damien Marley, The Draft, Mastodon. Those are pretty varied styles I listed. Good luck and enjoy the search. OMG! I almost forgot! The Mars Volta. Judging from the excellent bands you listed, I think you'll thank me for that one.

Two of my favorite bands of the 90's , The Lemonheads and Dinosaur Jr. have recently released new albums. Haven't heard new Lemonheads, but new Dinosaur Jr. is great!

if you want unique vocals, Disturbed is good for that and their new cd, 10,000 fists has a lot of meaning in the lyrics. Otherwise, I would say Seether, Godsmack, A7X, Killswitch Engage, and Slipknot
