  • Genre-Bending Proposals?

Hello, I'm looking for some genre-bending proposals that address political issues in a creative way. The only one I can think of off the top of my head is Jonathon Swift's "A Modest Proposal". Can anyone suggest some others? It doesn't have to be satirical, or even written in standard prose, but it should not be a standard proposal. By genre-bending I mean there is another layer added to catch the readers attention (a gimmick).

Any ideas? In case you're curious, I'm a teacher looking to potential build a class writing project based on some of this stuff. Thank you for any help you can provide.

  • Has Windows Vista come far enough for me to switch from XP?

I am considering the purchase of a new computer that has Vista. However, I have adobe premiere 6.5 and other expensive programs that I don't know will work with this new OS. I know that it has had some problems in the past with compatibility of pre-Vista software, but has Microsoft resolved most of these issues?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time.

  • Why can't we vote against lesser evils and not a third party?

Can you please go to the following site and then explain to me how voting the big government oriented status quo (which McCain and Obama clearly both are) is going to change anything for the better?

  • Supporting Bob Barr? If so, what are you going to do to spread the word and show libertarian support?

Are you going to go door-to-door, donate, set up meetups at meetup.com? What else? I am looking for ideas, but also want to help spread awareness that everyone needs to do something!

  • Name one thing that the government hasn't screwed up?

Social security is doomed. Our education system is in shambles. There is inequality between people for having different pigmentations. The war, environmental policies, taxes, etc. The list goes on and on. Voting for McCain or Obama will ultimately provide a much larger government and, therefore, less personal freedom. There are very few instances of the government relinquishing any amount of power once it is acquired. Why is this better than a free market? Please explain your answer.

  • How do you option a short story to make as a film?

I am looking to option a short story by James Ellroy, and have been in contact with his agent. What's an appropriate amount to offer for an author that famous? When I buy an option, do I have license to do whatever I want with that story within the time period allotted, or are there more rights issues & money to be spent to be dealt with once the film is created? I'm new to the whole process and want to know a little bit before I get in deeper.

  • Rock music recommendations for a stubborn listener...?

Okay, I need some musical therapy... since the 90's, I have lost hope for originality and have been stuck in time... For those who can match my interests and give me some new hope in contemporary rock, I will reward with so many stars that it will take two whole hands to count them.

Please note, I like unique voiced/original rock sounds... do not reply with lip-sync music, fake drum beats, or guitarless dreck... here are some bands/artists I do like: Aimee Mann, Pearl Jam, Audioslave/Soundgarden, Juliana Hatfield, Weezer, Monster Magnet, Sponge, Elvis Costello, Velvet Revolver...

More recent: Tally Hall, Tenacious D, Black Market Radio...
