Pirates 3 question (SPOILERS!!)?
Um...what is the significiance to the boy in the beginning being hanged and it being the same boy that plays Will and Elizabeth's son in the end? Are we supposed to assume that their son is hanged? Is that beginning scene in the future? Were they cheep and, in making a poor judgement call, used the same little singing boy? What is up with that? Thanks

Yeah, I was confused about that too, but I understand it now. The boy in the beggining of the movie is NOT the same as the boy at the end (after the credits). The boy in the beggining was a son of one of the pirate lords. You could tell because he was holding one of the nine pieces of eight in his hand. There are nine of those coins, and each pirate lord has one. Cutler Beckett had condemned anyone involved with piracy to death. The boy's father was a pirate lord, and therefore sentanced to death. The boy at the end of the movie (after the credits), was a different boy. He was Will and Elizabeth's son, ten years later. It wasn't the same actor, the two boys just look very similar. Hope that helped!

The boy in the beginning is significant in that he starts singing the song that calls the Brethren Court together. Once the song is sung, the Court convenes (which was Beckett's goal; that's why he was hanging so many people, to get them to sing the song). So it's not a future scene. I thought at first it was the same boy, but after a search on imdb.com, they are two separate actors. Dominic Scott Kay plays Will and Elizabeth's son (named Will Turner after his father); Brendyn Bell plays the cabin boy in the beginning that starts singing.

The little boy who was hung is played by a different actor than Will and Elizabeth's son, so their characters must be different!
I repeat, the boy and their son are different people! The significance, I think, is to call a meeting of the brethren court of pirates since the little boy holds up a coin that is similar to the one Barbossa showed to Sao Feng.

no there is 2 diffrent actors....and the boy in the beginning means that all the pirates needed to be hang but if u were to hear the lyrics to hoist the colours u would understand what that part meant...and the last part with will and elizabeth means the 10 years that will was gone and that both of them were faithful to each other and the curse was lifted

It was symbolic in the fact that in the beginning, it was seemingly the end of a group of people, and in the end, it was symbolic of the tradition and the people carrying on.

Thank you, Autumn! I can't vote for you (level 1), but you made the movie make so much more sense to me now!
(I am NOT being facetious, by the way)
Loved the movie!
