Laptop won't EVEN turn on?!?

Okay, my laptop does not turn on. PERIOD. Like when I pressed the pwoer button, I hear it running, but the screen is still pitch black. NOTHING. Sometimes, before, after a while, and for random times, I turn it on, and it turns on. Then I shut it down when I'm done, happy, and then when I try to turn it back on... NOTHING!!! It's so frustrating, and this time it's even more frustrating because I have all these documents in there that I saved and did and only needed to be printed, and now I can't even access them!

Can someone PLEASE tell me how to do it, ASAP. It's an IBM ThinkPad, and uses Windows XP Edition, R52.

When I press the button, all the lights/icons turn green, and then turns off except for this weird icon that has a Z in a circle and the battery icon, which is green. Hear it running, but no luck seeing anything. Beofre, I just typed things like "open sesame stupid computer", pressed the button again, and it opened up. Not it doesn't work and I'm in desperate need!!!:[

try this -- to see if its your hardware or possibly your operating system or even a virus.

    Get a floppy -- a windows boot disk - even a windows 98SE disk.

Put that floppy in the drive -- if the laptop doesnt have a floppy use a CD.

Run a program that doesnt require the operating system to be loaded, such as your restore disks--maybe even an antivirus disk.

Start your computer like 3-5 times, and see if each time your laptop display loads up properly.

If it does, then youve isolated it to a post bootup problem.

It could be a loosen power connection, a bad power supply, video chip going or gone bad.

then it could be an O.S. problem.

But by doing what I said, and if it actually works..loads up to DOS each time, then at least you know its not a hardware problem.

let me know if that helps

  • Im not a pro when it comes to computers but I know there is a virus going around that you can get from an "invitation" email (even if its from friends) that can make it so your computer wont even turn on. You can check on craigslist.org (be sure to click on YOUR city and state) and look for computer service. You can usually find a computer pro in there that will come check it out and fix it for less than popular shops.

It's possible that the screen is broken. Might have to go to best buy or something to have it looked at.

have it checked by a technician, maybe the LCD had a leak and got damaged.

I agree - have it checked out they would know what the problem is
