Terrorism is a generic term used to describe any form of violent activity which targets civilians. It is generally accepted that the intent of terrorism and terrorists is to draw attention to their cause by way of harming others who may have no direct relation to the cause.

Naxalism has (or at least started with) a specific ideological underpinning. Naxalite groups belong to the communist ideology and claim to fight against those who oppress the poor. Apart from being anit-establishment (i.e. they fight against police and other government institutions), they usually target large farm owners and industrialists who, they claim, are exploiting the rural poor.

Considering that naxalites resort to violence often, they may be called a terrorist group. However, some people are of the opinion that naxalites are fighting for a just cause and it is incorrect to brand them as terrorists.

the difference is in their origin and stream of thought but very little in their activities.

terrorists r people who want to get something done and use guns and bombs and human lives to force someone to fulfill their wish.

naxalites are the followers of a movement called naxal movement.this movement was started in the andhra pradesh against disparity of wealth.so naxilites attack and loot wealthy offices, people and distribute the booty amongst the poor.but now this movement has taken quite an ugly shape and seems to wandered too far from the original aim

they are similar because they both use illegal force and violent methods to achieve their aims
