My daughter refuses to eat dinner; she waits until breakfast. HELP!?

My 3 year old has always been a picky eater, however, recently, she refuses to eat dinner (I only put about 1 small bite of everything on her plate). When I tell her to take a bite, she does, but she holds that bite in her mouth for the entire dinner period (up to a hour). She will not swallow it, or drink or anything. I have tried to put her drink for last, I have tried putting dessert for last, I have tried to offer sauces - nothing works. It seems that she waits for breakfast as we have pancakes, or hot cereal or corn flakes with fruit, etc. She take a multivitamin, but I don't know what else to do about dinnertime?!?! Oh, she does the same thing at lunchtime as well. Unless it is turkey burgers w/ fries or nachos, which we rarely have. I have to feed the other family members healthy meals so I don't want to cater to her menu selection. Do you have any suggestions?

You don't say if she has snacks between meals. At this age most children do. If you are giving her snacks, try either cutting out or cutting down on snacks. If she only wnats a certain food for lunch or dinner, that's also normal at this age. If she likes turkey burgers try turkey hot dogs, apple slices instead of fries. cheese slices/sticks instead of nachos. These are not time consuming or expensive and she is eating healthy. Try noodle soups for lunch or dinner. Macaroni and cheese is usually a favorite. Don't worry too much about getting her to eat meats. If she is eating hot cereals and fruit, maybe peanut butter sandwiches for lunch or if she doesn't like sandwiches but does like peanut butter just let her have about a tablespoon full on a spoon. They love it, seem to think it's prohibited since it's on a spoon and will usually eat it without encouragement. Also, may you be encouraging her to eat? Try just putting her food in front of her and ignoring her if she doesn't eat or even if she does. She may be selfconscious. It will not hurt her to miss a few meals and I promise she will eat when she gets hungry. Just remember, no yelling, bribing, or teasing to get her to eat. She will eat the amount she needs, when she needs it. If she's eating at least breakfast and getting a vitamin, and she is at a fairly normal weight for her height, don't worry, she's getting enough to eat. Not all children eat 3 meals a day. If she still refuses to eat anything but breakfast and she is losing weight, talk to her doctor. As long as she is developing at a fairly consistent rate she is fine.

Try serving last night's dinner as her breakfast; and let her know you'll keep serving that leftover dinner until she makes a legitimate effort at eating it.

Make sure also that you're not giving her any bedtime snacks, and no fruit juice or milk with dinner -- nothing that's going to temporarily sate her hunger so she fills up on liquids and skips the meal.

Also, make sure that she stays at the table until everyone else is finished eating -- no being excused early so she can play or watch TV. Dinnertime is as much about being together as a family and talking about your day as it is about eating the food.

Make pancakes for dinner, there is nothing wrong with that. I eat breakfast food for dinner all the time. I have ate eggs and toast for dinner, pancakes and eggs, and even corn flakes. But the turkey burger are good for her, don't fry the fries, bake them. Nachos are good also, because the are made of nothing but corn.

Why are you allowing her to do this.....................

You need to step up to the plate and act like a parent!!!

YOU select the healthy food for her to eat, put a plate of food in front of her, if she refuses it, take the plate away, cover it, place it in the frig, next meal, remove the plate, uncover it, heat it up and place it in front of her again (that's right - the very same food she refused earlier - do NOT give into her - SHE is NOT the boss!). You continue doing this until she finally eats it and she will because she will get hungry. Do NOT give her any snacks in between meals nor tons of liquids - this will only fill her up so she can wait for breakfast again.

My daughter-in-law had to do this with all three of her girls. They didn't like it but guess what - they were NOT the boss. When they got hungry enough - they finally ate what was place in front of them and never complained anymore. Now they eat everything that is given to them and life is great.

What you are trying to accomplish here is; YOU are the boss, you control what she eats, YOU will NOT give into her and she can NOT have her way!

My nephew used to refuse to consume plenty in any respect, basically while he became into hungry. He did this while he became right into a million twelve months, 2 years, 3 years, even for the time of our holiday to Disneyworld final twelve months October (he had became 3 the August earlier, and is now 4). somewhat it became into humorous, how he'd turn down delicious food. whether it handed finally. whilst I hardly say this for parenting circumstances, it is basically a element. it will bypass in time. For now, have faith him to consume while he's hungry, and don't rigidity him to consume if he does not desire to, except you comprehend particular that he hasn't eaten all day and it is supper time; even then, evaluate offering one or 2 of his sought after snacks, fruit as an occasion.

She will not starve to death. You can either continue as you are, seek expensive counseling (food therapist - yes, they do exist), or make meals she will eat. My daughter is the same way. I cook for my husband and myself, she eats cereal (mostly) and other foods she has found that she likes. She is a normal, healthy 13 year old.

She's not going to starve herself, but I'd change the breakfast menu to something with more protein and fewer carbs.
