How to get rid of moles?
I live in the country and I have a really big yard. I'm having a problem with moles and I can't seem to get rid of them. I've tried some things, but nothing seems to work. I realize that living in the country I'll have certain critters and varmints to deal with, but this is ridiculous. Any suggestions??
My yard is about 4 acres and I've tried moth balls....that just makes them move to another part of the yard. Thanks anyway.....

Best bet is to erradicate them permanently by killing them. A good way to do this is with those "firecracker type" smoke bombs they sell real inexpensively at all hardware stores. Just light and drop in the mole hole. Kick a little dirt in the hole and it will kill them and bury them at the same time.
Works GREAT for all snakes too. I used them on about 10 non-poisonist snake holes in my yard and wiped them out PERMANENTLY. Any hole based creature is quickly poisoned and buried and out of your hair forever. Forget the mothballs and chemicals, they don't work well and you have to keep doing it every month for the next 20 years...forget that nonsense.

When i was on the farm, we had problems with moles as well. The only thing that we found worked was trapping. What you do it get a mole trap (any farm supply store should sell them), they kinda look like a miniature bear trap where 2 sides fold down and held open by a catch, so when stepped on it snaps shut. What you do is take the trap and attach a 4 foot long chain to it and attached the end of the chain to an 18" plank. The plank and chain is so that the mole doesn't pull the trap into the hole and you lose it. You have to dig down to where the mound is and find its run and clean out a spot to put the trap. Then take a piece of plywood (usually 24" square) and place it over the hole, leaving the plank and chain out. Cover the plywood with the dirt. It must be completely covered so the mole run is dark, any light seeping into the run and the moles won't walk there. After that....pick up your dead mole in the morning.... the neighborhood cats will love you.
Its not a nice system....but with moles its war. They will destroy a yard in a matter of months.
Good luck and happy hunting

Varmints, that's a good one.
As to your problem, maybe get a sprinkler system installed. Now that the impact of global warming is being felt nationwide pretty soon everybody is going to need a sprinkler system. I know most animals hate getting wet and will avoid water at all costs. It might be worth a try.

Mothballs do the trick for things like racoons, squirrels, etc. Try those. Any animals I know of will avoid them because they can't stand the smell.
