Not a pet, but Sick deer in my neighborhood?

Today I was driving by a deer and I noticed it was covered with large (about 4" diameter) black blisters. It was prancing along with its tail up, but it was very unsightly. I don't know what was wrong with it but I hope it isn't contagious to humans. Does anyone have any idea what might be wrong with it? Thanks in advance.

There are many diseases that affect deer, most of which are NOT transmissible to humans. What it might have been depends mostly on the area you are in. Call Animal Control or the local Department of Agriculture, or Fish and Wildlife. They are most likely to know what it is, and whether or not it is cause for concern.

Did you really get a good look at the animal? At this time of year, the most likely cause of an unsighly coat is seasonal molt. What you may have seen was a unsightly patchwork of winter and summer coats. In addition, animals at this time of year can be emaciated if they've had a tough winter (unless you're in Australia, in which case it's backward!). So even though they are perfectly healthy, some of them do look really awful.

Isn't this how "28 days later" started?

Well, ok, it was a Monkey & they were in England, but why take the chance.

If what you are describing to me is correct the deer might have some sort of mutated AIDS virus......as you know it is not contagious......just dont have sex with the deer. I did. The one night stands are horrible because you are in backyards....naked.....alone......cold......hungry.......bubbly......

you know what? i do hope it's contagious to humans. I don't even see how you can call yourself a human if you don't call animal control or the zoo so they can help him
