Bamboo trees like lots of water and room to grow. If you are looking for that much height, try a healthy ficus or palm from a local hardware store such as Lowe's or Home Depot.

Plants such as snake or mother-in-law's tongue, peace lily, or lucky bamboo are also easy to grow.

If you kill everything or have a very curious cat like I do that eats everything, a silk tree may be an option. The best ones are from Aaron's furniture rental returns since you can buy a commercial one for $49 which is much more realistic than the ones at Michael's, Target or Stein Mart, I sold mine for $75 when I moved to California, a little more than I paid for it.

I also buy silk orchids from department furniture stores on sale because they look real.

The ficus plant is in the same family as the bamboo, and it can adapt fairly well in any indoor environment. I used to water mine weekly, and it got adequate light either from the window or the flourescent lights in my office.

I got rid of it when I relocated since there was no room in my new office to put it.

spider plants are great. you can keep them almost anywhere in your house and they do well. water once a week and they are just fine. i keep mine by a window that usually has the curtain closed, some sun comes in but not much.

bamboo plants also do well, you just keep them in a jar or glass vase with the water already there. just keep an eye on the level and make sure to maintain it. good luck!

Besides bamboo plants that only need their water changed once a week, peace lilies and Chinese evergreens are a good choice. I keep my Chinese evergreen in the bathroom where it gets very little natural light and it only needs watering about every 2 weeks.

I have had 7-8 large pots of Peace Lilies in my home for many years. They are so easy. I only water them every 2 weeks. Several times a year I clean the dust off the leaves. I fertilize them a couple of times a year. They are so beautiul and bring me much joy. You should give them a try.

Palm and pothos would suit your needs well. They would need watering once a week and would live pretty long.
