Why does my myspace account keep getting phished?

I have phishing protection on, but my account has been phished so many times tonight that I'm running out of passwords to use to unblock my account.

Okay. Here's the situation with MySpace phising. I recently saw a video on YouTube and on there was a man who owned and operated a website solely for hackers. On this site he showed us how he can get people to give their usernames and passwords by creating a website EXACTLY like the log in screen on MySpace which he in fact operated. People would usually click on an option in their MySpace webpage (like a friend's profile, messages, etc. etc) and would be prompted back to the log in screen.

Thinking this was done in error or that they were accidently booted out because s*** happens on the internet, they would relogin their information. HOWEVER, they fail to notice that they are on a fake webpage owned by a hacker who is phishing for information.

One way you can detect this is by going to the password box and when you type in your password you can clearly see the characters you are typing instead of these *****. This is the for sure sign as of now that you are on a fake page.

This is a more common way to phish for passwords and I have been a victim of this as well. Only did I change my password and notice whether or not I was on a fake page did I stop getting hacked.

Remember, watch the password bar when you type. You characters shouldn't show up. Simply going back to you true MySpace page in your URL will show you whether or not you are logged in for sure.

    Be careful and good luck.

By the way, if you happen to be redirected to the fake log in screen through a friends profile. You may want to tell them that their web page has been hacked and being used as a diverter. Tell them to change their password and more careful and they should be fine.

Here is something that I have learned. If you open any bulletin and it asks you to log in, don't do it. Don't open it. Remember you are already logged in. You type in your password because it looks like the myspace homepage, but it is not.

Anything I see other people posting in their bulletins that says anything like "this is so funny, check it out" and then it has a link - I never open it. I've never had any problem with phishing or having my password stolen and I think it's because I don't ever go to these sites.

Bulletins are the worst and it's the worst way to pass on a phisher from friend to friend. Just don't go any further after you open a bulletin and you don't know exactly what it is.

Ensure that the only place you're typing in your password is the www.myspace.com page, and for good measure, double-check the URL bar.

Many phishing sites look EXACTLY like the myspace.com page. It can look like www.my-space.com, www.MySpacee.com, www.myspace1.com, etc.

Also, minimum 8-character password with letters and numbers.

And if it's becoming too much of a big deal, well simply, mySpace isn't the world.

stop going into websites that aren't recognized, or u have may have like a backgroud from a phising site so check that stuff out like comments, backgrounds, contact tables stuff like that. One of my friends had that problem and she redid her whole profile and stopped getting phished, hope that helped some =)

i kept having that issue too. i switched to firefox and it never happened again. firefox detects web forgeries. every time you go to a site that tries to phish your info firefox will tell you and give you an option to leave the site immediately. this browser will warn you on sites other than myspace too.
