Nausea and pain?

For the past few days I have been feeling extremly nauseated, I lost my appetite and can only tolerate saltine crackers and water, my lower abdomin has been hurting, and my mood is horrible toward anyone who even slightly annoys me. Is it possible that PMS is becoming worse as I get older, or could it be something else?

You didn't give a lot of information about your condition. Do you generally get these same symptoms during the PMS time every month? If so, then it could quite possibly be period related. I know that PMS makes me want to lay flat on my back with pain killers and a heating pad and not move, eat, drink, or sleep because I am so miserable.

There are other things it could be too though. The first question I would try to answer if I were you is are your bowel movements regular? If they are not, you may have some sort of blockage. If you think this may be the case, go to your local drug store and pick up a Fleet Test Prep Kit (it's an enema and a few other products), give yourself a good cleaning out, and see if the symptoms go away.

The second question that I would answer if I were you is there a chance that you could be pregnant? Being pregnant will definately wear you out, make you feel uncomfortable, and give you many of the symptoms that you describe. If there is any chance that you might be pregnant, pick up a home pregnancy test and find out for sure, just to be on the safe side.

Do you experience pain down below, such as when urinating, or severe pressure or pain that you feel even when not urinating? If so, you may have a urinary tract infection. I know when I have a urinary tract infection I feel "blah" all over, and am definately nauseus and dizzy and so many other things. Yeast infections will also make you feel that way in many cases. If you have a urinary tract infection, treat it with urinary pain relief tablets and cranberry tablets over the counter. If you have a yeast infection, treat it with over the counter creams, or see your doctor for a pill to treat it.

Other things that can cause nausea are changes in weather. For instance, when summer months roll around and it's extremely hot outside, I feel nauseus. Drink lots of cool water (sip small sips at a time), lay in front of the fan, put cold wash cloths on the back of your neck and your forehead, and so forth. Try to limit your outdoor activities, and stay out of direct sunlight. Sometimes direct sunlight alone will make you feel nauseus if you spend a lot of time outdoors.

The flu can also make you feel nauseus. If you have a fever, stomach pain, vomiting, or any other symptoms, you may have the flu. For the flu, bedrest, liquids, and a bland diet until you feel better.

I've had a similiar problem, only it lasted half a year (and I was vomiting almost daily) even after repeated trips to the doctor. Turned out to be a bowel blockage and the test prep kit I described got rid of it. Currently going through something similar I've had for months at a time again (almost 10 months), and the doctors still haven't figured out what's going on.

One thing you should do, if you are concerned about it, is see a doctor. They may not be able to tell you what it is, but they can help rule out things that are life threatening so that at least you will have some peace of mind.

In the meantime, get yourself some Peppermint and Ginger flavored Altoids (mints) and suck on them as often as you need to, they really relieve some of the naseau. Also pick up a package of meclizine (made for motion sickness) at Wal Mart. Equate makes a generic brand that Wal Mart sells, it's under $4 a bottle, and I swear by it for nausea and vomiting, it's a lifesaver. You can also purchase the motion sickness tablets at any major drug store. They do help! Good luck to you!

If this doesn't go away after your period does, I'd get it checked out.

Something that helps with nausea along with saltine crackers is drinking ginger ale, or taking anything with ginger in it. Just some other little small things that might help.. yogurt's great for your digestive system and helps to prevent yeast infections, and taking warm baths or applying heating pads to your lower abdomen might help to relieve some of the pain.

It's pretty much impossible to help you with your questions without alot more information and some health history. A better suggestion for you is to go to www.webmd.com and click on diagnose symptoms, it will walk you through steps just as your doctor would, and help you know if it's more serious, or something you could try home treatment on. It's the best resource on the internet, and explains in easy term everything you need to know. Good luck with this and I hope you are feeling better very soon!
