Refrigerator question?
I have been told the defrost timer in my fridge os broken. Every so often the fridge turns itself off, If i tap it on the top, it turns back on, however if I don;t everything melts. Is this fixable? How?

The defrost timer on some domestic fridges can be a little hard to get to. If you're really the do-it-yourselfer, try to find the repair manual online for your model fridge. Generally the defrost timer is held in by a couple screws and has a couple wires hanging off. The only thing that may be a pain is the capillary tube sensing bulb. It holds a refrigerant change to sense the temperature and if that breaks, you're done. Just for that reason alone i suggest calling in a pro if it looks a little too hairy for your taste, or if the unit has too many years on it than you'd care to say, just get a new one because Sears may hit you with a nice repair bill.

The defroster timer turns the refrig. off several times aday as part of its defrosting function. Are you sure it is not just doing its thing. I once needlessly purchased a timer because I did not know this.
