Vital signs, including heart rate and blood pressure, and basic chemistries, such as sodium, potassium, hemoglobin, hematocrit, BUN, creatinine, hepatic, and lipid profiles, must be monitored carefully. Monitoring these parameters will help the clinician determine drug choice, treatment dose and duration, and help to alert the prescriber to potentially serious adverse effects necessitating discontinuation of therapy.
