Can I put my pet monkey to sleep?
I have had him for about 5 years now and he is getting hard to manage and developing a bad temperment. Do you know if I can legally "put him down" I don't know if I could get into trouble for doing it, these things are delicate now days..
No one is going to want him as he throws his excrement and I have had to enclose him with a plastic shield, but I don't know if I can do it myself or if I have to somehow work with the Govt. Like the people that turned loose crocs and then get into trouble for it.. I do have a 22 and I could take him out in the woods but is it illegal or not??
I ask this here as there are Christians that can give me good advice.
I believe it is morally correct, but am not sure..

Give him to the zoo- animals are not disposable just because they become inconvenient and should not be killed because you should never have had it in the first place!
Honor your responsibility and comittent to this animal and see that it gets proper care or goes to someone who will care for it properly and deal with it's behavioral issues. It is
probably jealous of another pet,girlfriend/boyfriend, or you don't spend enough time with it- and that's why it acts out.
Take care of your poopy monkey and be a good Christian!!
You of all people shouldn't be wasting God's creatures because you're lazy and the novelty of having a monkey has worn off!
Source(s): The Christians who agree to kill it are a sweet crew, eh? - Anonymous1 decade ago
See a veterinarian who specializes in exotics, preferably primates, and explore all possible causes for the behavior first. It could be hormonal, he might be at an age where, if he was human, he'd be a teenager, I don't know how it works with monkeys, but I do know that they go through "phases" in life, just like people.
You may be able to place him with a primate rescue center or a zoo. Leave euthanasia as a last resort, it is highly unlikely that the animal has any sort of physical or mental illness that would negatively impact his quality of life to the extent that euthanasia would be a viable option. You can have it done, it's not illegal, but it would be unethical if it's being done simply because you don't want to deal with his behavior and help him with his issues.
Please don't abandon him. No living creature deserves to be abandoned after enjoying a bonded domestic relationship with human beings.

For goodness sakes, find a zoo that will take him or some animal rescue group! He's obviously not happy, but putting him down is NOT the answer. He needs an environment that is suited for him. Give the little guy a chance, he just wants to be happy like every other living being on this earth.

Can't You find some love left in Your heart for this poor little monkey? Sure it flings poop and may even bite or attempt to do unspeakable things in Your ears, and the ears of your neighbors, and family members, even Your friends, but it is one of Gods creatures and part of Gods great plan for all! You could spank the monkey for its transgressions but this will not be a permanent solution for you'll only have to spank it again and again and the more You spank the monkey the worse it's unspeakable ear behavior and poop flinging might become! No, love Your monkey in God's kindness, cuddle the monkey and take it everywhere You go! All will see the love You have for Your monkey and God will rejoice, the monkey will feel the love and all Your simian trouble will end. Go now to your monkey and love it, as You love life, as You love God. Amen.

Are you under the impression that only Christians can give good advice?
In regard to your question, it's illegal to both kill the monkey as well as have it put down professionally without any plausible reason. (For example, sickness or severe injury) Perhaps you should have considered the huge responsibility of owning such an animal. Take it to your local vet/spca and tell them you've done a poor job in raising it and tell them it has developed many vices due to your lack of knowledge in training. They will take the poor thing off of your hands, and someone will take it on with the proper habitat and knowledge that you obviously lack.

in elementary terms you could verify what's morally precise or incorrect for you. Legally, you ought to ought to feed him some thing to get him ill with a view to have a reason to place him down. Vets do no longer many times euthanise a healthful animal in simple terms for convenience. and don't assume the humane society or an animal shelter to take him. They infrequently take exotics. If it might ease your experience of right and incorrect, then i could say by all ability verify with a zoo and notice in the event that they're going to take him. you're able to get the further income of being waiting to pass there and notice your little "celebrity."

Isn't this a question for your Vet, and family, and your families religious leader (if there is one)?
I would suggest the Christian thing to do is talk to the Veterinarian.
The thought crosses my mind that if you spanked your monkey less - maybe he'd be in a better temperament and live a longer happier life.
Again this is the Christian thing to do - never spank your monkey; just have sex after marriage like the rest of them. LOL!

Why not turn him over to your local wildlife fund? Humans should not keep animals like monkeys as pets.

give it as a present to your ex wife. HA
Ok, seriously...
Like any other pet you can take it to the vet, and they can euthanize it. I don't personally think there is anything wrong with killing it, in a humane way.
