Antique Military Dog tags information please??

I came across some OLD dog tags. Most of the information on them can still be read. Is there a way to find out more information? I thought about trying to track down person or family member to see if he or they might like them back. Judging from condition and other things attached to the key chain, I would guess it is Vietnam era tags.

Update:

There are no chips out of the tags, just plain tags. The back and front side is coated with what looks like red paint, atho the front has most of it wore off. I figure someone probably dropped them in paint somewhere. They also have one of the old can openers with it and a couple of keys. One looks like a key to a foot locker.

Update 2:

I can read the engraving as well, but one line makes no sense. it says drnny e .

That's really great that you would go through all that to find the owner of the tags. I don't think that the design has changed much over the years for dog tags. The one thing I do know is that the older ones had the chip in them and they don't anymore. If yours has what looks like a small trianglar shaped chip taken out of the bottom edge, then it is truly OLD.

Maybe a jewlery store could take a closer look as get more information out of it than just the naked eye.

    Good luck with your hunt!

I always thought they were pretty standard but I guess not. I'm looking at mine right now and here is how it goes. 1st line- Last name, first name, middle initial. 2nd line- SSN, branch of service 3rd line- blood type, religious preference There is room for two more lines though

Forensically any engraving or stamping can be raised but, it is a very expensive process. Very thoughtful of you to mention it!
