I am trying to start a MOPS group at my church?

MOPS is mothers of preschoolers. For those that have a group started.

How many people do I need to get involved?

What kind of space do I need?

How often do the groups meet?

What type of problems if any can I expect at first?

First, good luck and kudos to you! I am a co-coordinator of a MOPS group in the Birmingham, AL area. For info on starting a group, I would suggest you visit www.mops.org. Most of your questions will probably be answered there. We host our meetings at a church in their sanctuary. It is not set up like church seating. We have round tables with 6 chairs per table. We meet once a month at the church, but plan activities for every Tuesday (Girls Night Out, Book Club, Game Night). We also have playgroups that meet every other Monday. My best advice would be to be patient. It might take a while for your group to really get up and running. Good publicity will help. Put brochures in pediatrician's offices, preschools, and local libraries. I hope this helps! Good luck. Feel free to contact me if you need more info.

That is so cool! I am involved in a group very similar to this at my church. You will definitely need people to do nursery, to give the moms a break. You need a large meeting room, depending on the size of the group. If you have a small group, it could meet at someones home. These groups usually meet once a week. Sometimes our group goes on special trips (like the zoo or park for a barbecue) about once a quarter.

There shouldn't be to many problems. People might get the wrong impression of the group, and think it is a babysitting service, but I wouldn't expect that.
