Windows XP taskbar problem?

When I try and minimise a window on Windows XP (SP2) it just disappears. this does not happen with media player in mini mode , but does happen with Firefox, Word, Internet Explorer etc; its been like it for ages, so system restore really is not an option, does anyone have any ideas? thanks

I haven't any thought. i'm at the instant having the comparable situation with abode windows XP professional. I open a application and it does no longer take place on tmy taskbar. an when I do ALT CTRL DEL and pass into job supervisor i now no longer have the tabs or the menu for the job supervisor. so i won't be able to close it. I recomend calling Microsoft.
