Question about an ex and mutual love?

Here's the thing.

I confessed by love for her after our long distance relationship bit the dust, just because I just had to get it off my chest. Now I call her up (still good friends) and she sounds like she's got something on her mind. I ask her what's up. She says that she brokeup with her boyfriend (she always defined it as a dating friends, nothing serious...why? IDK).

I had a feeling that wasn't it at all, because she did it herself and it was a mutual breakup from my understanding. She starts talking about how her ex-bf's ex was diagnosed with lukemia and he was wrecked over it, because he still loved her...and how it got her thinking.

She then goes on to say that she is having a hard time saying what she wants to say. I ask her to try, because I'm a bit lost. She asks if I remember my confession of love a couple weeks ago. I answer "yes". She says, "well, same here"...it was so lacking in romantic tone, I didn't understand. I asked, what do you mean? She stops a moment.
