Why does my dog scratch so much?
I have a 5 month old Rottweiller/Lab mix that has scratched herself since I got her when she was about 7 weeks old. I mentioned it to the vet who recommended an oatmeal based shampoo. This has not helped. She has no fleas or ticks. Any help is appreciated.

Did the vet do a scraping for mange?
If that has been ruled out, my next question is what are you feeding?
Most grocery-store brands contain corn and wheat, not natural foods for a dog but actually empty fillers which can cause allergies. Get her on something corn-and-wheat free, I suggest Canidae:

Another good food for allergies is Wellness Fish and Sweet Potato formula:

You can also try adding 1 Tb olive oil to her food each evening.
Fish oil capsules (containing Omega-3 and -6 fatty acids) can help the coat.
Do not bathe frequently as baths dry the skin out. The oatmeal shampoo should be good.

She could be allergic to something in your home such as the carpet (if new) or it could be a food allergy. Your vet needs to do some more tests. Don't just leave it at that. Once you saw that the oatmeal-based shampoo was not helping you should have gone back to the vet. Remember, pets are closer to the ground in your home than you are and for more time. Have you changed carpets? Do you use lots of chemical cleaners? Paint recently? Do you vacumn frequently? What kind of food is she eating? Some food that contain wheat can cause allergies. Your vet can help you find the cause via a process of elimination to irritants. You need to look at everything around your home. Does she come in contact with other animals?

Most likely allergies or fleas.
Dog allergies manifest themselves through the skin.
Also, get your dog on some flea control like Advantage, Frontline or Revolution.
Could be a skin infection/fungus like ringworm also. That can also be contagious to humans. A vet can do a scraping of the skin to evaluate it.

if you are feeding her food from WM or the grocery store that is probably causing it.
Could also be other allergies but food is the most common
understand that it does not take an infestation of fleas to set them off. The bite from one can do it

Sounds like an allergy. What kind of food do you feed her? Many grocery store foods have fillers in them that can cause allergies. One of my dogs had the same problem. We switched him over to Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's Soul, and his itching when away! It might be worth a try. Good luck.

Well I can't think of the name of it but my lab had it too. It's kinda like a seborrheic dermatitis....basically just really dry skin and could sometimes have flaking. My vet prescribed an amino acid capsule that he had to take daily for a couple weeks and it helped.

It sounds like fleas, but it could be her diet. My dog used to itch and scratch and scratch and itch all the time when we had her on Pedigree. We switched her over to Holistic Blend (site below) and the itching and scratching stopped almost instantly. Her coat became glossier and her outlook improved. I would try switching her diet.

She's either got an allergy, or possibley demodectic mange. I can't tell because I can't see her. She may be allergic to your carpets, or the food she's on. She may even be allergic to the grass in your yard; there are many many things that can cause this.

It could be an allergy to something such as food, dyes in the food, pollen, grass. These are just a few things.

Mites... When my Golden Lab had 12 puppies... around 6 weeks, they ALL got mites and needed shots!
