Can you put a frozen roast in a crock pot?

I have made roast before, but I am wondering if I can make it from frozen on low for about 8 hours?

I do it all the time, but if it is frozen I would put it on high if you plan to eat it well done. I usually put it on when I go to bed and when I wake up it is done! Or I also have done it while I went to work so it would be done for dinner! I last did it overnight and put it in the fridge while at work. When we got home that evening, I shredded it by hand and put a bottle of BBQ sauce on it for BBQ sandwiches. It was out of this world!!!

Source(s): I don't add a thing to it! Not even water or salt! It doesn't dry out or turn out tough at all! It is fork tender! It will make a lot of juice on its own. You could add a little liquid smoke if you like that flavor, though.

Yes, it's ok. Matter of fact, the frozen meat really gets tender from slow thaw. I always put my frozen meats into the Roasting pan, with a little broth along side. Season well and then seal up with tin foil. In the crock pot , frozen meats are great.

Yes you can and it will thaw and cook, but I season the roast then brown it (sear it on all sides, nice and dark brown in a dutch oven on the stove top) of course it's not frozen and then I put in the crockpot with carrot, potatoes, onion, parsley, garlic and any other seasonings and it comes out delicious.

i put them in the crock pot frozen all the time...and i cook it on low as well. as long as you can give it 8 hours, it should come out fine!

maybe try throwing it on high for a couple of hours, but if you can't do that, it should be ok.

No, it would take too long to thaw and wouldn't cook all the way through in just eight hours on low. Thaw it first before putting it in the crockpot. And next time, cook the roast while still fresh and THEN freeze portions (if, indeed, there is any left over).

Yes you can with a little less water and put your potatoes, onions, and carrots in there with a little meat tenderizer, salt, pepper and let it cook for 8 hours, come back and make the sauce tighter by adding a little flour and water mixture or cornstarch and water to thicken the texture and there you go a nice tender roast.

You can but I wouldn't advise it...it would defeat the purpose of slow cooking...why not just soak the frozen roast in water for a few hours?

If frozen you should leave it on high for awhile if you only have 8 hrs to cook it.

Roast is really good if you brown it first with spices before putting it in crockpot, which I suppose you could still do when it's frozen. YUM!

i have..it took 12 hours to cook but then my mom taught me a trick

if you put your roast in a frying pan on low on your stove for a half hour..15 minutes on each side..it thaws it without really cooking it..and it cuts your crock pot time down by hours

Yes! You can. Just make sure you put in plenty of water and cover so it doesn't dry out. Little onion soup mix adds a nice flavor too.
