How Do These Contact Lenses Work? Can I wear them?

I am going to a costume party this month and will be seeing some friends I have not seen in a while, and likely won't see again for at least a year. So I sort of want to go all out...

I am getting a pair of special effects contacts designed to look like slitted snake eyes. They are from a well know, safe company and supplier but only come in one size... I was wondering how these contacts work since the slited design obviously has to go vertical to look right.

Without being fitted, won't they slip around and rotate once in my eye? Are they weighted to counter act this? Help please! They're not very expensive ($60) but all the same, I don't want to spend the money on something that doesn't look like I want it to.

They must be weighted to keep them in the right position. But don't worry about that, it will be so minute that you won't feel anything. If you're used to putting contacts into your eyes, it'll be no problem.

Contact lenses, even decorative/cosmetic ones without any power, are prescription devices. They must be fit by an eye care professional to ensure they center appropriately, move ~0.5-1.0 mm on the cornea with every blink, and extend far enough onto the white part of the eye to prevent damage/irritation. There is actually a federal law that states you must have valid contact lens prescription from a doctor to obtain any contact lens. Some contact lens outlets choose not to abide by the law, deciding the profit outweighs the risk of being involved in litigation. Also, these outlets that choose to disobey the law sometimes sell fraudulent merchandise...you may think you are getting a reputable brand, but your have to instill trust in your supplier. Doctors deal either directly with the contact lens company or wholesale providers, so you can trust their products.

There have been numerous reports of corneal infections and damage caused by decorative contact lenses reported by eye care professionals. Youy eyes are too important to chance on illegal lenses...see you eye doctor, please.

You should see a licensed optician and make sure they will actually fit your eyes. Some people can't wear the special fx lenses because they don't fit properly. They could slide around your eyes, causing major discomfort and possibly injury.
