  • Is Acrylic Sealer Alright to Use on Polymer Clays?

I know you can use Acrylic Paints with Polymer Clay but how about Acrylic Sealers (such as matte sealers used on graphite or pastels)? I want to seal my work that has detail pastel painting so it won't wear off as much over time.

Would a sealer like Krylon Crystal Clear be safe to use? I know it contains acetone in small amounts and I was unsure if this would create an issue.

Should I use an Acetone free sealer like Mr. Super Clear instead?

  • Would this be considered a derivative work?

I was recently reading a debate about whether or not it was a violation of copyright to reference a three dimensional sculpture and make a drawing based on it.

To keep this simple, let's assume the creator of the drawing isn't making a profit, and that the reference was very literal and the sculpture they drew from would be recognizable by someone who was familiar with it. Let's also assume the sculpture is a recent work but not terribly famous.

As far as I can tell, this is a derivative work and there is nothing legally wrong with the situation. However many don't agree and say that it does violate copyright.

I can see how this is morally questionable.. But legally?

Can anyone explain in detail? Sources, please! I don't want opinions, just facts. Best answer goes to whoever can prove it. I'm an innocent bystander in this debate and just want to know who is right, no one seems to be citing any sources for their views and I can't find anything about this in particular.

  • What Font Is Used On This Movie Poster?

Hello! I am doing an appropriation project for a conceptual thinking class.

I'm using this original poster for Alfred's Hitchcock's “The Birds” as a base.

I have found good matches for most of the fonts used on the poster except for the specific face used in “The Birds”. I know I will have to manually adjust, possibly alter single characters and add a stroke and shadow with whatever font I do use in order to mimic the style, so that has nothing to do with not being able to find a good match.

I've been browsing “Retro” fonts and assorted Serifs for a while now with very little luck. At this point I will likely piece together two or three fonts I've found then manually alter the characters to reflect the style. But if I could find something similar it would be easier. Not to mention it would give me more options.

Anyone know any similar freeware fonts? I welcome any similar style fonts, please!

    Here's the poster:

  • Can External CSS Style Sheets Pose a Security Risk?

A website I frequent has recently asked its members not to use external CSS style sheets when customizing their lookups and profiles.

I was wondering why a website would do this, aside from wanting to limit what aesthetically may be changed. Customizing and using CSS is allowed and encouraged, so I know that isn't the reason why the request to not use them was made.

I also do not believe that cross browser compatibility is an issue in this case either, since on site CSS is still allowed.

Does an external CSS style sheet pose any sort of security risk or other treats I'm not aware of? I always assumed they were completely safe but is it possible to use them in a damaging way?

I'm just trying to figure out why the site might request this because I can not think of a concrete reason not to use them.

  • Draft Horses with Appaloosa Type Coloring?

I recently saw a four horse hitch and all the horses were spotted in the same way an Appaloosa horse would be, but they were all heavy drafts with minimal feathering. Lots of mane, though.

Two were semi-leopard colored while the other two were leopard. Three looked like mulberry roans, and the last looked like a blue roam.

What breed could they have been? Or are they a grade? I have heard of Appaloosa and Percheron mixes, so maybe that is what they were?

    Any ideas?

  • Good Video Software with Screen Spot Options?

I can't take screen shots while watching a video or playing a DVD with the basic software I have. ((Windows Media Player)) what is a good program that has the option built in? While using the keyboard button nothing seems to work.

  • Price error on a web site.. What price am I entitled to?

I was about to order a refill on my contact lenses from coastal contacts and I typed in the brand in their search engine to pull the page up quickly.

The product I wanted came up and advertises a sale price of $29.99, but the product page reads $59.98.

what price am I entitled to? Do I have the right to request the advertised sale?

  • Nair.. Total Junk, Doesn't Work. What does?

I have very fair skin and very dark hair. No matter how close I shave my legs, you can always see the hair under the surface.

I know how from a distance, or to another person standing nearby, this isn't detectable. But I can see it, and I know it is there and it bothers me.

I have tried using Nair and it just will not work. I can only remove patches of hair and it doesn't seem to get anything below the surface. I always have to shave my legs after using it and even if I wait a day it just leaves them irritated.

Are there any hair removal creams that work or anything else I can try, besides waxing or using sugars? I don't want to use at home waxing kits or products like Nads. They're messy.

  • How Do These Contact Lenses Work? Can I wear them?

I am going to a costume party this month and will be seeing some friends I have not seen in a while, and likely won't see again for at least a year. So I sort of want to go all out...

I am getting a pair of special effects contacts designed to look like slitted snake eyes. They are from a well know, safe company and supplier but only come in one size... I was wondering how these contacts work since the slited design obviously has to go vertical to look right.

Without being fitted, won't they slip around and rotate once in my eye? Are they weighted to counter act this? Help please! They're not very expensive ($60) but all the same, I don't want to spend the money on something that doesn't look like I want it to.

  • How many calories does a human burn daily, negating exercise?

I am trying to find out how many calories a human burns every day from simply being alive.

The amount someone who slept or was bed ridden for twenty four hours would use.

I found this number in the past and can't locate it now... I'm curious.

  • What can I do to make myself more marketable for my job interview?

I have a job interview on the 2nd at an organic cosmetic and bath shop.

I know they have a number of other interviewees, and I probably don't have the most experience of the bunch. But I really want the job.

I was wondering how I could make myself more marketable? I've been familiarizing myself with their products and policies. And I've been using their products as well (well ok.. I do that anyway). What else should I be doing, besides the obvious (well of course I'll dress the part...)

  • Can someone explain the process of publishing a book?

My boyfriend has been working on a novel and while he's almost done with it he's now claiming it isn't "worth" finishing and that he has no idea how to go about getting it published.

So, how does publishing work? Does a person get paid a base value based on how successful their book is estimated to be? Or do publishers already have a value set for new writers? Does an author get royalties as it sells?

    How does it work?

  • Who are some good contemporary pianists I might like?

I'd like the names of some good contemporary pianists so that I can research their music more.

Instrumental mainly, please. Some vocal tracks are alright. I'm just looking for some good background music to play while I'm working.

  • My Gmail is going crazy?

When I try to log into my gmail it will begin to take me to my account but then it will begin to reload the page over and over and over, nonstop to the point where it allows nothing to load. Stopping the page doesn't help because it just leaves me with a blank page.

I checked it last night at another computer and it worked there.

I havn't changed my setting... what's going on?

And trying to change my gmail settings from google doesn't work, it just does the same thing.

  • Don't you hate it when people say....?

Don't you hate it when people say "dethaw?" when talking about something that is frozen and needs to thaw out?

That really bothers me... Since, technically, to "dethaw" something you'd need to freeze it.

What common misuse of words do you hate?

  • Do Zorse Horses Have a Dun Factor?

I was wondering if anyone knew the gene that makes zebra have stripes?

I was just wondering, technically, what color would a zorse with a seemingly bay base coat be? Would it be a dun because of the primitive markings, or something else?

I was wondering, if someone were to create a Bonzai Tree out of a flowering tree, like a Linden, Dogwood or Cherry, what would happen?

Would the flowers still bloom? Would they be stunted?
