Don't you hate it when people say....?

Don't you hate it when people say "dethaw?" when talking about something that is frozen and needs to thaw out?

That really bothers me... Since, technically, to "dethaw" something you'd need to freeze it.

What common misuse of words do you hate?

I can't stand the misuse (ironically by educated people) of the word "myself". For example, "Henry went to the movies with Sally and myself" or also incorrect "Henry went to the movies with Sally and I". I don't know why people seem to be scared to use "ME". "Henry went to the movies with Sally and me". This is correct, but you hear these errors all the time, even on TV by educated people.

It drives me crazy when people say something happened 'on accident' instead of 'by accident'.

Also, when the words nuclear and realtor are mispronounced as 'noo-cue-lar' and 'real-a-tor'.

Also when the word 'collectibles' is mispelled as 'collectables'. I even saw this on a neon sign!

What bothers me is the use of the word "irregardless" because it doesn't exist. Say "regardless" has the meaning that people are looking for. Putting the "ir" as a prefix on regardless makes no sense - yet people do it.

    Good Luck!!!

I couldn't care less (or, as Americans prefer to say: "I could care less" - and you know what? They could indeed!)
