When an application asks for a desired wage, and your in high school, what should you put?

it's a job at AMC, and I don't want to sound like I consider myself worthless, or like I'm asking for to much.

Min. wage is 5.15 in my state

I am assuming that this is AMC theaters. I doubt they will pay much, as they probably have a set pay scale.

    I recommend:

    1) Put down "market" or leave it blank if you are unsure about putting a number down. This number could be discussed if they decide to hire you.

    2) You can also ask around from your friends who work there about what range of pay they have there. I would put down the higher of the range, especially if you have previous working experience.

    3) Don't sweat too much over this. The truth is, the company will likely give you an offer with the wages that they normally pay new people. Then it's up to you if you want to accept that or try to negotiate for a higher wage. Obviously, if they have other people willing accept the position for less, they may have the option to do so.

    Good luck!

Some schools of thought would just say to leave the space blank. Chances are for this type of position the rates are already set, therefore you wouldn't have the power to negotiate them. While working for a retail store we received about 5-10 applications a week and whether or not this space was included didn't have much bearing on the individual getting an interview.

If you want to pay it safe, you can include "market" or "entry-rate" in the area.

What is more important, however, is the REST of the application. Make sure it is neat, handwritten legibly and not folded, torn or creased. If your application is in good order you'll have an advantage over most of you peers applying for this job. Good luck!

When I was new in the workforce, I would always put in the word "minimum." Some places would even say, "Oh, we will pay 25 cents over the minimum!" So, wage was never an issue for getting hired. They always looked at me as being flexible which was a good way to start.

Put "negotiable" and they'll tell you what starting out pay is. Take whatever the starting out pay is. You'll eventually get raises if they like your work. Most places pay a little above minimum wage.

you can put the amount you used to get paid at your previous job (if you've been employed before) if not i think 6.00/6.50/6.75 is a reasonable wage

if not you can just put NEGOTIABLE that's what i've done in the past :) (a lady from Human Resources from a previous job said that was the best answer, so...)
