Most gave you wonderful ideas but in addition to that I'd suggest you take a train to Poitiers or Tours, rent a car, and spend a couple of days exploring the various chateaux. If you enjoy history you're certain to fall in love with these well preserved ones scattered about in the Loire Valley. One of my favorites is Amboise. Don't forget to visit Clos de Luce where Leonardo Da Vinci spent his last days. You will also see models of some of his earliest inventions; quite interesting. I also love Chenonceux; this chateau is so charming and it definitely has a woman's touch. Look up the history as it, too is very interesting. While you're in the Loire Valley do not miss the wonderful sweet white wine of Vouvray; it's the best in my opinion.

Back in Paris don't miss the Orsay Museum if you enjoy the works of the Impressionists. I could literally spend hours watching Monet's masterpieces. It's fascinating to be so close to his work that you literally can see his actual brush strokes......ahhh, I can hardly wait to return.

One last thing, you must sample one of their chocolate/banana crepes, a chocolate filled croissant, and a Croque Monsieur.....yummy!!

Enjoy your trip and become French for the duration of your visit and not simply a tourist; you'll have much more rewarding experiences as a result.

If you are in Paris, then the usuals. Arch de Triomphe (you must have a photo under it - looks great!), Shop (or at least coffee) Champs Elysees, Cathedral Notre Dame, Cleopatras needle thing (there's lots of other cool fountains and gold statues and stuff there too) - check out all the prestige cars in that car park, Luxemburg Palace and Gardens, Eiffel Tower, Louve (or however you spell it - although the Mona Lisa is disappointingly small), and of course you MUST do a chocolate tour. The link below is a group one. You should try Nice. It is a gorgeously devine city. Also have a look at the French Riviera (the beaches are quite nice and it has areal French sophistication about it, and do not neglect the beautiful countryside of France with its quaint cottages, vineyards, wild growing lavender. Very traditional old France. Eat some snails, have a crepe, drink some wine, eat a croissant, indulge in the chocolate and have fun.

Paris is ideal for History, Museums and Art, but if you are looking for something in the south of France, as opposed to the usual Paris, try these:

St Tropez - the original French Riviera, a bit jaded now but still has loads of character and atmosphere

Cap d'age - the new French Riviera, full of beautiful expensive yachts

Carcassonne - fabulous walled city with a walled castle within - loads of nostalgia

Montpelier - lovely old seaside town

Cirque de Navacelles - a beautiful village in the bottom of a deep valley which has a river with a cascade, a small hill in the middle with 'Lady of the Madonna' on the peak and hillside climbs to the top of the valley, otherwise it's one way in and one way out.

Cant go wrong with Paris then.

Youve got the Louvre, Arc de Triomphe, of course the Eiffel Tower and lots of little side streets of old Paris to discover.

I'd also try the flea market at Clignancourt. Quite an experience but beware of thieves and pickpockets as usual.

In addition to going to Paris, I highly recommend going to Versailles. It isn't far from Paris, and is absolutely fantastic, especially if you have an interest in history.

I wouldn't let my dog take a dump in france. Go to a country that is worthy of an Americans' money.
