Should I go for a new job closer to my family in another state or stay put?

I am trying to decide if I should go to another state where most of my immediate family lives. The reasons I am leery, is I am comfortable where I am and reasonably well paid. I have a lot of freedom in my job with scheduling and no direct supervision. I can take public transportation to work and my husband can pick me up in the morning ( I do not drive-long story). We are in a city we love. My husband is originally from the area we live in now. I really want to be closer to my family but am afraid of really screwing myself with the job. I will be senior staff and expected basically to train 2 new kids. The area we would be moving to is also a much more expensive area to buy a house. The same house I have now, would be literally double what I paid for it if I were to buy it there. I t is a really good oppurtunity to get into the ground floor of a new exciting venture but... I am so torn about it. Anyone has has faced similar situations please advise. Thanks!

Sounds like the classic scenario for making a pros and cons list for each possibility and weighing the results.

In general though, I would say if it ain't broke, don't fix it. If you're happy with things now, why risk the uncertainty. It also sounds like the cost of living is a major concern. Would the salary at the new job help offset the cost of living increase? The other thing is how far away is your family now? Would moving to this new place make you more likely to see them more often or would it just be more convenient when you want to go for holidays and what not.

Wow, that is a tough decision. You need to figure out what is most important to you, your family or your environment. It is tough to downsize from what you currently have, but you never know, it could be an adventure to try something new. My suggestion is to make a pro & con list, ponder it & then pray for some guidance. This is what always works for me to help me make the decisions I need to make.

    Good luck!
