How can I protect my knees while exercising?
I bought a dance workout DVD with different dance styles on it, including a ballet sculpt. That involved squatting and twisting to the side on one leg while still in a squat. I hurt my knees for a day in the process. What can I do as an alternate exercise to that move and still get the benefit from it?

Make sure your hamstring muscles are stretched out and warmed up. That may help some.

If the twist part hurts your knees, don't twist...just do a regular squat. If done properly, a squat shouldn't hurt your knees as your weight should be in your heels with your buttocks sticking way out behind you.
Bravo you for working to get fit though, and take care of those knees. That's a problem area for many people who exercise.
