My friend wants to switch health care provider while pregnant?
My friend wants to switch health care provider from cigna to kaiser, as kaiser is one stop shop for all medical needs. The problem is she is pregnant...not that happy with her current doctor...expecting to deliver the baby in january of next year. She will have to enroll in her medical benefits by nov this year...she wants to choose kaiser..asking me for advice.
Is it okay?, safe to make a move when you are that late in ur pregnancy?

Absoulutly. When I was pregnant with my daughter, we had a problem come up, and the way it was handled by my doctor was just terrible. I was 5 months pregnant when I switched. It was the best decision I ever made. If she is not happy, she can and should switch doctors.

OMG!!! Tell her not to switch to Kaiser! This is crazy! I had to switch from CIGNA to Kaiser because of my husbands job. I was due this past January! It sounds like had the exact same problem! I hate Kaiser. I hate everything about them. When I was in labour they did'nt obey my birth plan. I was on continuous monitoring for 16 hours. My epidural was done 3 times by a obvious student. I pushed for 2.5 hours before they made me have a c-section. I told them I could push longer and they said that I was at the limit. I was very upset. After the c-section they took my baby and I did'nt see him for almost 6 hours!!!!! I kept calling the nurse and asking her where my baby was. My husband could go see him in the nursery. I kept making him check on him because I was scared something had happened to him and thats why they would'nt let me see him. He was fine, they were just behind on their baths that day! They only gave me 800mg ibpropren for the pain and looked at me like I was crazy when I asked for something stronger. I hate them and I will switch as soon as I can. I was 5 months pregnant when we switched and I was almost 7 months when I was finally able to see a doctor again. It has'nt been any better since he was born either. The doctors are at the bottom of their class and show no sympathy for your child when they are sick. My son lost a pound in a week once because he was sick and the doctor said " I don't see why youre worried, He is still above average for his age" Can you believe that! What a ***! Tell her not to switch bottom line! She will regret it from the first day on. Oh yeah I almost forgot! The emergency room is like a homeless shelter and if your child is'nt sick going in they will be coming out.

I would say it is definitley okay to switch. I was extremely unhappy with my midwife but I was only seeing her once a month so I really didn't start to notice how rude and abrupt she was until I started my 2 week visits and that is when i thought to myself, no way is this lady going to deliver my baby! I asked around to friends and made sure that their doctors accepted my insurance and I transferred doctors when I was 35 weeks pregnant. It is the best decision I have ever made! I do not currently have Kaiser but I did with my first child and i loved them. I saw the same doctor for every visit and when it was time to deliver I just went to my hospital and the oncall dcotor delivered my baby. Having a baby is huge and you want to make sure that you and your doctor have a good relationship!

i would definately hold off on the switch until she talks with someone from kaiser. most insurence companys will not cover a pre existing condition and pregnancy falls under that category. not all insurences are the same so it would be best to find out exactly what the policy and terms are.

I agree that she should call Kaiser first to see what their policy is. Due to the pregnancy being a preexisting condition, they may not cover the cost of delivery. Likewise, they may not cover any care leading up to and following the delivery since prenatal care and the tests as well as delivery can be very expensive to an insurance company.
Have her call right away!

I don't see why not!?! I didn't even have insurance till I was 6 months pregnant with my second child. And then we finally got insurance so I had to switch OB doctors because the one I was going to didn't except my insurance. I ended up loving my new doctor, and I had a lot of problems and it was still smooth switching over. Problems meaning I went into labor at 27 weeks, so I was on strict bed rest in and out of the hospital. Oh and pregnancy is not considered pre-existing! So all insurances cannot refuse to take it. You will just have to have your deductable met obviously before they start helping out

It incredibly relies upon on your coverage. With an HMO, working example, you will frequently be limited to a particular provider section (ie. your state). although, you will nevertheless be lined for pressing and emergency care whilst out of state. So, in case you will college in FL and have an HMO, you will nevertheless be lined ought to something unexpected ensue, and you could basically look forward to wintry climate or summer time wreck to schedule any ordinary care back at living house. while you're lined under a PPO or POS plan, you're able to have out of community advantages. you will nevertheless be lined for an identical centers whilst in FL as you will possibly at living house, even though it could cost a splash you a splash extra. frequently with one and all of those plans, out of community centers would be difficulty to deductible and coinsurance. additionally, if the provider isn't gotten smaller which includes your insurance, they are no longer required to place up the bill. they might ask which you pay up front and positioned as much as the insurance company for repayment your self. you ought to call the # on your insurance card to be certain your coverage style and spectacular advantages.

no, the new provider will more than likely not cover the cost of delivery. I didn't have any insurance at all and didn't even think about that. I ended up having to get the medical card because no insurance company would cover the cost of having my baby. good luck!

If it does not have pregnancy as a pre-existing condition, she may can, but some insurances will not and consider pregnancy a pre-existing condition and will make you wait till after birth! Mine picked up with me at 3 months, it is blue cross and blue shield because it does not consider pregnancy pre-existing at all! I was lucky that ours picked up, not all blue cross will but the ppo has no preexisting pregnancy conditions , so it just depends on the terms!

I depends on her insurance. My best friend changed doctors in the middle of her 2nd pregnancy & didn't have any problems. She needs to call her insurance company & discuss it with them to see if everything would still be covered or not.
