I don't think it's fair, but I plan on using it, and getting into politics just so that I can serve 2 years in congress just so that I don't have to work for the rest of my life.

The Congressional pension system, is the exact same pension system that every other federal worker has.
They do not get a pension for serving 2 years.
They generaly have the same pension that most corporate workers have.
You have to have enough time to be vested, then you have to be 55 years old to start collecting it.
And contrary to popular belief, Congressmen do not receive their salary the rest of their lives after leaving Congress.
SS is not a pension, it was never designed for SS to be your only retirement income.
Most people have a pension at work, so why shouldn't federal workers have a pension ?
EDIT:
Gorge, if they qualified for a pension, before they were sent to jail, and were over the age limit , so they could leagally begin thier pension.
Then they would receive their pension while in jail.
What does being in jail have to do with it ?
If you qualify for a civilian pension and get sent to jail, you still get your pension.
Now Congress does have the authority to vote on a bill that would stop pensions for congressmen convicted of crime.

I'd feel a lot better if they'd just take one federal pension and send the rest back. It's a lot better than a military pension or Social Security--both coming from funds that are in trouble. Let them send that money back or become ineligible for these.
Also, if they take up lobbying their old buddies, they should lose 1% of the pension for every office congressional or senate office they visit and every meal they eat with sitting member. Retirees cause a lot of tax money to be wasted. by playing on old friendships.

They have a fantastic pension program, I wish we all could get a pension as good as theirs. And these are the people that want to take away the little bit that Social Security can give us. It is hypocritical that they are so well taken care of while we have to fight for what little we can get.

Do you realize you contribute a few pennies in taxes to these pensions?
Save your change next time you go to the grocery store. There you got a return on your contribution to pensions.
