Please Help! My phone fell in water!?
Please help! My Razr fell in the water and I can't replace it for a free one (I already called the company). They said I could only replace it if I had insurance for the phone. And since I don't, I was wondering if I could buy insurance for my phone and then call Cingular a couple days later to say my phone fell in the water. Would the insurance cover it? And would the company know? Please help me!

Don't panic, I too have dropped my Razr phone in water. What you need to do is remove the battery and drop the phone in a glass of rubbing alcohol. (Rubbing alcohol absorbs water.) Let it soak for an hour or so, then take it out and let it air dry before putting the battery back in. A friend of mine who works at Cingular taught me this trick.
If all else fails, check Ebay, as they have Razr's for relatively cheap (cheaper than you'd pay to buy a new phone from the company.)
And lastly, if you choose to get insurance on the phone and return it, that's your choice ... there's no way Cingular could find out you did this. Yes, it's considered insurance fraud but the decision is yours.
Good luck.

You need a new phone, yours is permanently damaged. Here is why.
The water itself does not cause much damage to the phone once it dries out, however all water contains minerals ( similar to the stuff you find on a shower head ) when the water dries in the phone the minerals are left behind as they cannot evaporate. These minerals are somewhat electrically conductive, and when they come into contact with the tiny circuits in the phone, they create new electrical paths, which results in complete failure of the device. You cannot fix this damage yourself, and the cost to actually repair the device would exceed it's replacement value.
Trying to return the phone to the dealer or having it covered by your phone insurance will be of no use. The phone contains at least 3 surfaces ( some look like stickers with dots on them, at least one is under the battery cover) that change color when they are subjected to moisture, they will not change back when they dry out. Phone dealers know to look for these water markers, when inspecting a defective phone. However, read your phone insurance carefully, some might cover water damage depending on what coverage you selected.

Ok I might be able to help if this happened and hour ago. First take out the battery and sim card. Then blow into any nocks and crevices to get the water out. Then wipe the water with a paper towel, do this for about ten minutes. Then take a light bulb and hair dryer and put them near your phone and battery. Do this for about a half hour until your phone is very hot. Please proceed with caution. Then just let it sit for about 3 hours with your battery out. Then place battery back in the phone and start it up. You may hear some static in phone calls and other noises. The screen may be water logged and I’m trying to work on that srry. Also do not try to charge for at least another 10 hours after you let it sit out. If you do not give it the necessary time to rest the battery will fry and you just wasted your time and you will have to buy a new phone.
This happened to me the other day and thanks to some suggestions from my friends and the internet I don’t have to buy a new phone.

Take out the battery, don't turn it on and let it dry out in a sunny place. That will be cheaper than your insurance scam. A couple of days without the phone? You might like it.

i asked some dealers and managers of cingular since i work there. they say that insurance goes into effect a couple months to prevent that kind of fraud. i would go with an unlocked phone. you just have to put in your sim card and it works perfectly fine!

Yeah just commit insurance fraud- that's what Paris would do...avoid personal responsibility and cry for mommy (mommy in your case is the insurance provider)
