  • Is $250 too high for a puppy adoption fee?

i am interested in adopting a staffordshire terrier from a rescue organization. i was told the fee for the 4 month old puppy is $250 and does not include the spaying/neutering of the animal. the organization has included free training classes which i am not interested in. is this too much money or is it a reasonable cost?

  • Should I stay with my current employer or accept a new position?

I have been working in a call center for a large wireless company for over a year, I make 10.65/hour for what is considered a management position. I work approximately 45 minutes from home, so I spend about $120 per week in gas.

Recently, I applied for a job as a customer service associate at a cash advance business in my hometown and I was offered a position starting out at 9.00/hour, which is 1.65 less than what I make now. With the gas I'm saving, I'd really only be making about 0.90/hour less because I won't be filling my tank nearly as often.

My main reason for wanting to leave my current job is my commute to work, especially with winter quickly approaching. I don't want to have to worry about conditions on the roads affecting my travel. Another reason I want to leave is because I am held to a particular quota and it is adding unecessary stress to my work day which affects my health and my family life.

I like the company I work for becaue they offer unlimited overtime which provides an opportunity for me to increase my paycheck, and they also offer a lot of unpaid and paid time off that I can use whenever I choose. I also like the advancement opportunities that are provided if I remain a top performer. Most importantly, I do feel that I have some level of job security (this is a multi-million dollar company, they aren't going to disappear overnight.)

Some things that concern me about the cash advance business is that I don't know if it is a secure job. With the recent legislation making it harder to obtain cash advances, I worry that payday loans will soon be a thing of the past. I also am concerned about whether or not the pay will be enough for me to live on. Is it right to take a pay cut just to be closer to home? I'm also uncertain if this new job will be as stressful as my current job, if not more stressful.

    Any feedback is appreciated.

  • Is West Corporation a good company to work for?

I have my second interview with West Corporation tomorrow and I am trying to weigh the pro's and con's of working for this employer. I just lost my retail sales job with AT&T in June and am currently receiving unemployment benefits.

West is about 45 minutes from my home and the shift would be from 5 PM until 1:30 AM, which would mean I wouldn't arrive home until 2:00 AM or later.

The pay starts at $8.00 an hour and increases to $10.00 an hour after 30 days. I would be working 40 hours a week. I was making $11.15 per hour at AT&T and working approx. 30 hours per week.

I would be answering inbound calls from AT&T customers, so I'd use my previous knowledge of AT&T to help resolve customer issues. This would be my 2nd telemarketing job, the only difference is that my 1st one consisting of placing outbound calls for charities.

I am worried that I will not like the company or the work after I start. For this same reason, I have avoided going to 2 interviews for other companies so far because the pay was less than desirable and I am afraid to be laid-off again.

If anyone has worked for this company before, please share any and all experiences you had.

  • What should I write in a thank you letter after interview with AT&T?

Last Wednesday I interviewed with a the store manager and assistant store manager of my local AT&T for a position as a wireless sales consultant. I currently have 1 year experience as a Beauty Advisor for Lancome Cosmetics. During the interview I explained how I recently ranked #1 in the region during Lancome pre-sale, and I backed it up with charts showing my placement in the company. How should I word this in the thank you letter to remind them of the fact that I was #1 in the region without sounding cheesy or overly confident?

  • Is my landlord trying to rip me off?

My fiance and I are getting ready to move into an apartment. We paid our landlord $425 for rent, plus a $200 security deposit on Friday the 25th. He said he would not give us the keys to the apartment until we had the utilities put in our name, so today I had them transferred. When I called him to notify him that we transferred the utilities, he mentioned that another $425 would be due again on May 1st. Is this fair? I didn't think rent would be due again until the 1st of June, since we haven't even moved in yet.

  • Question about Ebay's combined shipping discount?

I am selling several items on Ebay at the moment, and someone has asked if I would offer combined shipping discounts. I have not done this before, and I'm not sure I completely understand how it works. Shipping and handling for each of my items is listed at $3.00. If I were to offer combined shipping, would this mean the buyer pays $3.00 for the first item, and an additional cost (specified by me) for each item purchased from me?

  • How much should I offer on this house?

I am looking at a foreclosed house tomorrow that is listed at $24,900. The realtor said there has already been an offer made on this house, but the bank hasn't accepted it and is waiting for a more favorable one to come along (I'm guessing the offer was for less than what is being asked.) My fiance and I have been pre-approved for $30,000. What should our offer be? We have been outbid 3 times in the past.

  • Could the listing realtor be dishonest?

My fiance and I made an offer on a foreclosed home with our realtor, but he is not the listing agent. Someone else also made a cash offer on this particular house, but they went through the listing realtor. Soon after we faxed our offer to the listing agent, he told our realtor "The offer from my client was cash...etc" as a means of discouraging us from making further offers. Since this other realtor is responsible for sending our offers through to the bank, I have doubts that he even is. I'm sure he wants his clients offer to be accepted because he makes commission from it. I also think it is wrong for the listing agent to have knowledge of the amount of our offer, as he could be telling his clients to bid higher. I know realtors are supposed to abide by a code of ethics, but I'm worried this man is dishonest. What should I do? This is the 3rd foreclosed home we've had interests in and it's not the first time the listing agent has made such comments.

  • Will a simple county mix-up make our purchase agreement void?

Yesterday my fiance and I wrote up a purchase agreement with our realtor stating that the property we're making an offer on is located in X county. Hours later, the realtor called us back saying that the property is really listed in Y county, so a septic and well inspection is required, meaning we had to resign a new contract and tear up the old one. Finally, we come to find that we didn't really need to rewrite the second contract at all because inspections are not required on foreclosed homes. Now that I've thought about it, the contract we submitted has one tiny mistake ... the name of the county. Will this make the contract void, or will the bank still consider our offer?

  • Question about contract for purchasing foreclosed home?

My fiance and I made an offer on a foreclosed home today, and we waived the home inspection to make our offer more desirable to the bank. Since the home is 'as is', we didn't want to include a lot of stipulations, such as turning on the utilities to conduct the inspection. Unfortunately, I could not get ahold of our bank to ask if an inspection is required under the terms of our mortgage loan. Let's say our offer is accepted by the bank that owns the home, but my bank demands a home inspection. Will we have to rewrite the contract to include a home inspection and then submit the offer again?

  • What to offer for a foreclosed home?

My fiance' and I are intersted in purchasing a foreclosed home that was originally priced at $18,900. Recently, the price dropped to $14,900. It has only been on the market for 2 weeks, but there is already another offer on the house. We were approved for $30,000. What should our offer be? This house has a lot of potential, but I'm not certain it's worth our entire pre-approval amount.

  • Is it possible to have a home inspection done on a repossessed home?

My fiance and I are interested in purchasing a foreclosed home. The realtor is trying to get us to buy it without having a home inspection done, but I wasn't born yesterday. My question is, will the bank that owns the home agree to turn the utilities on so that we can have an inspector run tests on them? So many expensive things could be wrong with the house (septic, electric, etc) and I don't want to purchase it without knowing what we're getting into.

  • Should I list skills on resume from previous unrelated jobs?

I am applying for a legal assistant position, and my previous work experience is not 100% relevant to this job. During the summer of 2007, I took part in an internship at a plastics company. The only relevant skill between the two jobs is attention to detail, given the fact that I inspected plastic parts for defects. Should I list this skill on resume, even though plastic parts have nothing to do with legal office procedures? If so, how? Otherwise, what should I list in place of this.

  • Do I have to call the realtor listed on a foreclosed house, or can I go throgh the bank?

I am interested in buying a house that has been foreclosed. The property is not being sold through m realtor, but my realtor is the own who showed it ot me. According to my realtor, I can't make an offer because someone elses offer already went through. According to the realtor who is selling the house, there have been 2 offers on the house, none of which have gone through yet. Instead of beating around the bush with either realtor, could I go through the bank directly to make my offer? I honestly don't think my realtor has a clue what's going on, and the other realtor could be lying and telling me there were other offers on the house, when really he just wants the commission for himself and doesn't want my realtor to have it.

  • Unsatisfied with my realtor. Can I switch, despite contract?

My fiance and I have been searching for a house for about 6 months. In the beginning, our realtor was very helpful and flexible, but I feel she may be playing games with us now. After looking at 4 or 5 houses, we found one we were interested in and viewed it 2 seperate times. The 2nd time, there was another couple inside the house with their realtor at the same time we were there. Knowing that others were interested in the house, we rushed to complete our pre-approval,, but just as we were ready to make our offer, our realtor went out of town.

Just recently, we found another house we were interested in, only this one was listed through a seperate realtor than the one we go through. Staying loyal to our realtor, I called her to tell her we were interested in seeing this house. Since our pre-approval had expired, we had to do another one before we could make an offer on the house. When the time came to make the offer, she said she couldn't get ahold of the realtor who was selling the

  • Need help with a speech of introduction?

I've been assigned a speech of introduction which compares and contrasts two aspects of my life. For example, I can talk about something I love and hate, my greatest accomplishment and greatest embarassment, my favorite place and least favorite place, etc. It has to be 2-3 minutes long and my only aid are notecards with keywords and a few sentences written on them. Writing is my strong point ... I am not a public speaker. I believe I am going to use the love/hate topic. Traffic is something I hate, so I could use cell phones, old people, etc. as examples for why I hate drivng. If I stared out with this, what would my attention getter be?

  • Question about heating source for ball pythons?

My fiance and I bought a ball python last night and placed it in a 20 gallon tank with a heating pad underneath and a heat lamp. Does the heat lamp need to be on at all times? I read somewhere that ball pythons should be exposed to both light and dark because they are nocturnal.

  • Awaiting interview with AT&T. Should I call them?

About a week ago I submitted my interview to AT&T. The manager said she would be in contact with me after New Years. Unfortunately, the phone number I listed on my resume has been disconnected, so I have no way of knowing if they've tried to call to set up an interview. I would like to call the manager I spoke with and give her my home number but I don't know how to explain the situation to her, short of being honest and telling her that my cell phone was shut off due to not paying the bill. If I call her, what should I say? Should I just ask if she has had time to review my resume, then mention that I can be reached at such and such a number? I really want this job.
