Do you have a bat box in your backyard?

I want to put a bat box up in a tree in my backyard but she is afraid that bats will swoop at us and suck the blood from our necks and stuff. What are your experiences with bat boxes?

Yes !! Do It!!! Bats eat INSECTS!!! They will not attack you (they have VERY good radar and can/will avoid you at all times!!).

Make sure that your bat box will be in sunny location. Paint the box a dark color (brown or black) so that it will absorb heat.

The bats will leave the bat house at dusk and will return at dawn. They will not come out in the day time to bother you!!

    Good Luck!!

Yes, I do have a bat house. Bats are friendly non violent creatures. There are only two types of bats that do suck blood. Unless you live in the tropics you won't have vampire bats. I doubt vampire bats even inhabit boxes. Unless a bat is seriously injured It will not attack you. Instead it will lower bug population and will be a great attraction.

    I recommend:

This is were I learned about how to build and mount my box.

    Hope it helps!!

No, but I want one. We've just not had the time to build one. Bats are beneficial in that they eat a lot of mosquitoes each evening. We have some in our neighborhood and it's fun to sit outside at dusk and watch them flying about against the fading sky.

No, we don't have "Bat Boxes" but we do have bats that nest in our big cedar trees along the edge of the back yard. Bats will NOT attack you!

No, but I want one too. Bats will reduce the number of insects on your property and they are really cool to watch. Do a Yahoo search on them, they are pretty cheap to get over the internet.

If you google "bat house" you will find directions to make one, and where to hang it. I think it's a great idea.

actually bat dont really nests in bat boxes since they prefer caves and other areas away from disturbances. bats also rarely suck bloods from humans except for vampire foxes.
