I want a basic digital camera...?

I think you'll be disappointed. if you already have a nice digital camera, use it! Sony came out with a compact super slim 10megapixel camera. if you go with those $150-175, 3-4 mp cameras you'll be disappointed. Pictures could capture the right moment, but you dont want a crappy camera to ruin that. i'd suggest dishing out 250-300 bucks and get a nice 6-7 megapixel sony or cannon camera. you get what you pay for, affordable cheap, gives your a compromised picture!

Even though I personally own this camera, I would still like to highly recommend the purchase of a Nikon Coolpix L10 for the following reasons:

1. Besides taking well-exposed hi-quality 5 megapixel pictures, it uses a standard set of rechargeable double AA batteries which last a very long time;

2. Has a 3x optical zoom;

3. The flash setting for "red-eye" correction is on the navigator wheel and not within a submenu;

4. It's very small and light;

5. Uses inexpensive SD memory cards;

6. The digital video feature takes wonderful "sound" videos which are noise free. It records the piano very well with it's built-in microphone;

7. It comes with a USB 2.0 transfer cable which you connect to your USB computer port;

8. And the price is a mere $120 [sold at Samy's Camera - www.samys.com, and Staples.com.]

I suggest you buy something nice and classy as Panasonic, Canon or Olympus. Praktica (Germany) is also very good. Your optical zoom should be at least 3 and at least 4 or 5 megapixels of resolution. You'll find something good at $150.

Go to wal-mart and look on their cheap digital camera display. Affordable must mean under $100 dollars so there's the place to look.

Fujifilm FinePix A500. 3X optical zoom, 5 megapixels. Around $90-.
