Is true that the dowry in Saudi is around USD 50,000?
My colleague, a Saudi man, single, said he cannot afford to marry a Saudi woman because on average he has to pay around USD 50,000 for dowry.
Is this true? That's a lot of money! If I were a Saudi, I think I would celibate. :)
If it's not true, will any body give the common figure of dollar amount for dowry in Saudi?

it depends it can start from like the other guys said just a metal ring and it can go up to millions it depends on the family, social status etc.....but the average dowry in Saudi Arabia is about 50,000 riyals which is equivalent to about $14,000 with out the wedding price. weddings here cost about $50,000+ or more....and then you have the wedding ring which ranges from about $1000+ more... and then you have a shabkah which is a gold or diamond necklace and bracelet given to the bride as a gift and that ranges from about $20,000+....so the whole cost of getting married here is about $85,000 but like i said before it depends....some families don't even bother having a wedding at all...so it depends on the family's social status and tradition...

The Dowry money belongs only to the bride , nobody else , if her family try to take it then it is an illegal thing to do . But some times brides will give part of the dowry to their family to pay for wedding costs etc. The wedding cost is mostly paid by the groom , but some bride families will also help out. The dowry can be split into two parts , one is prepaid at marriage , the 2nd part is called Saddaq and is only paid by the husband only in the event of divorce. Some brides makes this 2nd part unusually huge to prevent the husband from divorcing since they know he can not obtain that much money (amount/value must be stated in the original marriage contract). On the opposite side, some husbands will also refuse to divorce unless they are paid a certain amount. It works both ways. In case of divorce , the husband is still responsible for alimony regardless of Saddaq. If there are children , their mother keeps the house and the husband must leave find another place.

It can be as small as $100 USD or a ring. Though yes the marriages cost over $50,000 USD. The Arab women in Saudi like nice things and the husband can refuse to pay that type of dowry if he can't afford it but if he can then he should pay it.

it is different from one family and background to another, the higher educated the less they will ask,
my uncle paid only 1 US dollar
my sister asked for only a ring that must not exceed 100 US dollars
my family and the region we come from don't ask for high dowry,
but the main problem young men face when they start planing, is the cost of housing, gifts, a car, wedding arraignments and the honey moon, that may cost more than 50,000, some will even take bank loans for the honey moon alone
you need more than 50,000 to start a life with any woman in saudi arabia

the dowry is any monitary item or cash that the agreed parties agree to before marriage.. it can be an item, maybe like a house given to her, some women ask for businesses, some ask for college education tuition, some ask to be taken to hajj, some want a car, some want a car/driver/housemaid, some want trips, and yes, some want cash or jewels. it can be of any value, from 1dollar up to infinity. whatever they decide on. .. yes some women are greedy, and some are reasonable.. If a girl wants that much in dowry.. Id think twice before marrying her. that will tell you a lot about how she will handle your money in the future.... I myself had a dowry of just a few thousand.. my mother her dowry (get this) was 60$.. only!!!!... Id much rather spend the money on future items or honeymoon than break my new husbands bank prior to..

Islamically the maher (dowry) can be as small as a ring of iron or as valuable as a heap of gold......or even teaching the wife someting.... Its up to the wife to ask, and the man to accept or not. THre is also a deferred dowry that is payable if the man divorces the woman....so its for the womans protection....now CULTURALLY its gotten pretty screwed up. But in the religion its simple and fair.

Sure no. If so no regular man will able to get married. Yes, some tribes set this as an average dowry but this is against Islamic rules.
