It's not a tax write off, but a tax credit. There are various credits for a variety of home improvements, including new furnace. I have included a link to Form 5695, which is the form for the energy improvement credits.

If you installed a qualified natural gas, propane, or oil furnace or hot water boiler, you can get a $150 energy credit on your tax return.
The only deduction for these type of home improvements is the energy credit, which is only a fraction of the cost of the improvements.
