Editing answers on Yahoo! Answers...?

Do you think the edit button kinda screws up answering? I mean, this person says that they think it's this one thing, someone else says the right answer, the person that posted first says, "oh yep, it's definitely blah blah blah." They get the best answer and it's just because they copied it and typed the wrong answer first.

So, do you think it's kinda messed up to have editing on Yahoo! Answers?

Update:

I use editing a lot to fix my spelling errors and to add links. But, maybe they should make it where it's like the Details for questions. Like, they can be in different paragraphs and stuff.

UPDATE: Oooohh... that would extend the length of the page even longer. My answers tend to be long enough already. LOL! Someone mentioned using time of post stamps on the forum, I think. Not sure if it would beneficial...probably would cause more negativity. I say just focus on giving quality answers and the points will come.

I see your point, but I use the "Edit" all the time. Otherwise, there would be many errors. I find that writing the most complete answer is best; also, I try to give credit when it's due. Also, just because someone wrote a similar answer, doesn't mean that you don't have the same knowledge about the matter and that you shouldn't be able to add it.

Also, copying can be done from answers 2 years ago. The answers and questions are searchable (on Google even). The guidelines state that people should cite their sources anyway (#4 under "do's" - http://answers.yahoo.com/info/community_guidelines... ).

In the end, it's about whether the questioner is satisfied by an answer. You can bring this issue up on the Y/A forum for staff to see it at http://suggestions.yahoo.com/?prop=answers . You may want to search there to see if it's been brought up before. (see I just thought of this, and added it - with the "Edit" function). Although, limiting this type of function seems like it would be difficult. I'd rather they focus on troll issues.

sure i've got observed that... and it incredibly is getting on my nerves! they're (Y! team) punishing incredibly everyone simply by fact of a few people who do the 'place keeping' ingredient to take the right spot. Amanda's for sure mendacity which you get to preview your answer: once you press 'positioned up', answer gets printed - no one gets to preview their solutions! and likewise, how approximately if one did no longer needed to repair a typo yet needed to respond to the askers added info? What then? enhancing the respond will carry it down... it incredibly is basically no longer honest! they might desire to hold it back to the way it became in the previous this new 'replace'. thank you!

Yeah, that is messed up. But does it really matter to anyone about points? Is one actually gaining anything in life when one recieves these ten points for a correct answer? Maybe, maybe not.

Maybe they should have it like they do when you ask a question. When you go back in, it doesn't change the original question, you just get to add to it. That would be more honest.

Can't find no edit option at all, I accidently press enter and it entered my answer and can't edit it and also cannot add another answer to continue my answer.

Well I can certainly see where it can be abused, but sometimes I think of something that I forgot to mention, and I will add it, so it can help too.

i see your point but i agree with the people above, points don't matter its all about helping the people or making someone laugh or something like.

but thanks for pointing that out :).
