To make melon balls for fancy fruit salads. They practically shape themselves once you cut into the melon with the edge of the tool; then turn it to shape the fruit.

It's for making Pretty little roundish pieces of melon. The point being decorative in your display of food. It's use similar to a ice cream scoop. It's all for visual affect.

I use it to scoop out the cores of apples. Less waste that way. I have never been able to manoeuvre it so that I get perfect round melon balls from melon, but when I used it to core my apples for making pie, or kid's snacks it worked like a dream. It is also useful for hulling strawberries. Because it is sharper than a spoon.

Use it like a teeny ice cream scoop. It's all for presentation. You can also use it to scoop out the insides of baked potatoes for twice-bakeds. It can be useful.
