Has anyone taken a 6-month old baby swimming?

How is the experience? Is it fun? I am thinking of taking my 6 month old son to mommy and me classes at the Fremont Swim School. Is it worth paying $17 a class? Did your baby enjoy it?

I started taking my son to swim classes at 4 months old and we are still going now (he is almost three). It is amazing what they can actually learn at such a young age and it is a wonderful activity that i have really enjoyed sharing with my son. He was shocked at first, but got used to it very quickly, the classes i took my son to at that age, taught him to take a breath on cue before going under water and they began the teachings of them learning to turn around to grab the side of the pool if they fall in accidently as well as heaps of games and activities. I found the classes well worth it and will be taken our second bub when he is old enough at 3 months.

Save your money and just take him to a swimming pool. It will be the same thing. Just introduce your baby to the water slowly because the coldness might startle. maybe start putting water on the baby's feet then legs etc.etc. Your baby will learn to swimm eventually. Maybe at 3 or 4 you can look into lessons but it is important they learn to swim as soon as possible

I didn't take mine to classes, but took them both swimming when they were 6 months old, they loved it. The classes are probably a good idea, they teach you how to hold and play with your baby in the water.

I was taking a vacation and i asked my nutritionist about taking my 5 month old baby in the pool and he said no. That the chemicals aren't really good for her. He said it could be toxic. He said that if you want to put her in a pool buy a pool and put regular water. So i asked about the ocean and he said that the ocean is fine its all natural. So I would just be careful about the pool. The chemicals could warm him. Oh and she loved the ocean. She wouldn't take her eyes off the water and she loved putting her feet in it. It was a great experience. Hope this helps!

I wouldn't bother paying for classes. I took my daughter at round about the same age. If you are confident in the water, all you need is a little pair of armbands for your baby and do your own thing. We used to go regularly and she learned to swim at about 3 yrs old.

i loved it and my baby did too. then my husband took over and they had lessons together until she was about 4 and learned to swim. it's a fun relaxing sort of learning thing for a baby. good experience getting comfortable in the water.

Babies in general love to be in the water. They were in it for 9 months in the womb. My girl is 8 months and loves to be in the water.. take your son and enjoy the time together..
