Victim of ID theft.?

I just found out that someone with my name or used my name and my SS# has a warrant out for their arrest, I have not lost my card or anything, but because I was going for a job with the police department, they found out about it and told me. How do I clear my name of this, I have no idea where I began to get this cleared up, and I was wondering how much more is it going to cost me, besides all of the jobs that I have been turned down for because of a background check.

I am quite ticked off right now, so I apologize if this question sounds like it has a lot of attitude in it.

Take it from someone u knows. I've been there. IF the peice of chit was an illegal alien - FORGET ABOUT IT!!! I was 'warned' by the police to stay away from the man who did it! Nothing happens to them. And, if Congress would have signed the Amnesty bill - he would have gotten legal status.

It's been 4 yrs. and my life / credit is still a mess. Changing jobs became a hassel w/ the credit check. Had to go to cash, and get a 'secured' credit card. Also, I found out that providing an SS # to work is voluntary. (about the only good thing that came from it).

So now I simply work w/o a SSN. And bring home 100 % of my check. Again, it's about the only positive thing that came from it.
