Do you agree that opinions on moral dilemmas are hard to make if you've never 'been there, done that'?
I don't think one can truly have made up their mind on abortion unless they've been in that situation, maybe abortion is the only choice you have to make. Just like with any other moral dilemma. Euthanasia, if you've never seen someone you loved suffer from cancer...you might not have much of an opinion. Gay marriage. If you've never been in love with someone that you could not marry, how can you make a proper assessment of what is 'right' in such a situation?
and etc etc.
Lawrence, those are not moral dilemmas. Your poor attempt to 'put words in my mouth' is idiotic.

I think this is very true.
Although few will be willing to admit it.
When I was a teenager I knew a family who were so strongly antiabortion that they actually participated in many demonstrations and rallies against it. The parents also went to different community centers and gave lectures etc against it.
Then when their youngest daughter became pregnant she suddenly disappeared for 2 wks and reappeared no longer pregnant. She was said to have been on holidays with her Grandmother.
It's amazing how peoples thinking changes when the issues directly affect them and their families..
I think a lot of people are to quick to judge others circumstances without that all important knowledge of having been there.

To paraphrase your statement:
"I don't think one can truly have made up their mind on armed robbery unless they've been in that situation, maybe being a thief is the only choice you have to make. Just like with any other moral dilemma. Child molestation, if you've never seen a child you loved...you might not have much of an opinion. Adultery. If you've never been in love with someone that you could not marry because you or they are married to someone else, how can you make a proper assessment of what is 'right' in such a situation?"

The Bible is very clear on all of the issues you mentioned. God calls homosexuality an abomination and a perversion.
Jesus raised the dead. What right do we have to give up?Jesus is still perfectly capable of performing the miraculous when the doctor says there is no hope! And read the Gospels. You will find that Jesus loves little children. He even warns us not to harm a child. I am writing the truth here and not quoting the numerous verses that support the position God has taken on your issues. I can tell you this: My Father died of cancer, I have a gay uncle, and a family member by marriage has had several abortions. I have told them the same things I wrote at the beggining of this answer in much more depth and even though it strained the relationships, I was duty bound as a Christian to say those things out of love and concern for their souls.

Being a Nobel Laureate says no longer something of Haber's character. It in basic terms speaks to his genius. recognizing the advantageous contributions of his technique does not forestall his prosecution for conflict crimes the two. one would desire to argue that the main needed "technique" of the twentieth century became the splitting of the atom. Many advantageous innovations are consistent with this technologies in potential, drugs, geology and anthropology. yet not one of the staggering minds who worked on the long island project have been even nominated for a Nobel Prize. Is that simply by fact their paintings became right this moment related to atomic weapons? regrettably, the Nobel commencing place is a private enterprise and would do despite they want. basically those days, they regarded at a guy with a improper pc type and a few properly placed incorrect information who made a action picture approximately worldwide climate replace. even nevertheless the guy's very own sources are leaving in the back of him as an Elmer Gantry and extra technological know-how exhibits his blunders than helps his theories, the Nobel commencing place stumbled on his efforts worth of the Prize. If something, the Nobel commencing place is exhibiting the worldwide basically how beside the point they're.

Really! Can someone make up their mind about murder without having been there? The problem is, people think that moraity is a matter of opinion. The morality of abortion isn't a matter of opinion. Abortion is objectively a grave moral evil. The only choice is whether to live according to the objective truth, or to rationalize your way around it and live a lie. The same is true of every moral issue. Morality is based on facts, not feelings or opinions.

Maybe I don't know...I've never had to deal with a girl thinking about abortion and in some cases where rape or incest was involved it would be hard not to see the good of an abortion but in reality I think I know that there is no good in abortion. And with gays in marriage I feel for em i really do but I can't change the way I think and believe based on my feelings.
I've seen lots of people die painfully of cancer and other diseases and although i sometimes wish I could kill em off i know Gods timing is what matters most.

I have learned that the morality decisions get harder , much harder after you have "been there and done that."
The people who find the moral choices easy, the people who are convinced of their rightness are those who have never been tested.
To try putting it another way, the less people know about something the stronger their opinions about it are, no matter how wrong.

I think in the end morality and ethics are all B.S. and that what matters is what works to keep you and yours alive.
If you take cannibalism as an example, immoral to us. Moral to 17th century Polynesians, we do not like the idea of being prey so the Polynesian cannibals were eliminated.
Now what about an airplane crash in the Andes where there was nothing to eat so a soccer team took enough of the meat of those that had been killed to keep themselves alive as they walked down out of the high mountains from above tree level. Or the infamous case of the Donner Party stranded with the wagon trains in the mountain passes of California.
Even something as repugnant as that becomes something that must be balanced against realities.
Again it is easy to be moral and righteous if it carries no consequences for you.

I don't think one's morals would necessarily change just because they find themselves in a difficult situation, so in that sense, I disagree. However, just because one's morals might be set doesn't mean they couldn't go against what they believe to be "the right thing" and choose another path.
For example, many of us believe it's morally wrong to steal. But if our family was starving and we saw a loaf of bread fall off the back of the bakery truck, who wouldn't grab it? It's not so much a matter of making a proper assessment, but a matter of making a choice that complements or contradicts existing morals.

I agree - people are so quick to make judgement calls when they are not affected. I pray that I would never have an abortion or kill someone - but I do not know what the future might bring that would leave me to either - I will leave in God's hands and pray about it!@~

Eden, the main thing is the moral end of all those things you mentioned. Is it morally right to kill a baby? Is it morally right to be gay? Is it morally right to kill an old person who is near death or a person dying from cancer?
I believe you have to stop and figure out is it morally right or wrong. If you have your feet firmly planted and know right from wrong, the decision wouldwill be easy. Pops
