Is male superiority/supremacy endorsed in The Qur'an and/or The Bible?

I can't speak for the qur'an but the bible places women in a second class position from the OT through the NT. There are passages where it talks of equality of the sexes but these are dwarfed by the passages which make men the supreme sex. Furthermore, from the earliest times, the church has further downgraded the status of women, even changing the names of some of the women church leaders that Paul addressed in his letters so that they would be seen as men.
