Depressed?

Ok I am 22 years old and I FEEL so depressed. I keep on having dreams of suicide. What can I do? I don't want to go to a psychiatrist because I don't want to be considered as crazy. What should I do? Should I just end it all. Help please?

Oh please, the psychiatrist isn't going to think you are crazy. They'll be happy that they have a patient to make more money off of. If you're in college, why not see a psychologist first? Therapy, that is the good kinds like cognitive behavioral therapy, is statistically just as good as medication for curing depression. If you feel like you want meds later on, try 'em with the advice of your psychologist and a prescribing doctor.

EDIT: I mention college because often campuses have mental health services for their students that are free (covered by tuition) or low cost.

Those kinds of thoughts are normal if your depressed just don't act on them. You can also see your family doctor instead of a psychiatrist that way you can avoid sounding like a crazy person explaining your childhood and giving him your whole life story. Your doctor may refer you to a psychiatrist in that case, you should go but In most cases they will just wright you a prescription and do a follow up appointment. I promise you will FEEL better!

I have cyclothimea (bad mood swings) one minute I'm at the top of the world, then for days on end I feel suicidal. Then I found a friend who is happy to listen to me spill out all of my emotions. We IM all the time. I think you need support from a close friend who you trust. You might want to go to a psychiatrist to make sure you don't have a mental disorder like I do. They helped me, but my friends helped more

dont you DARE listen to those maniacs, they want to see you suffer behind bars. Not me, baby!

as soon as you mention Suicide, get ready for the shackles and straight jacket. Nothing sucks more than being held without your consent, especially when you have no idea what's going on

(and BTW they're all just greedy scam artists, in co-hoots with the drug companies as well)

Hi, my name is Jay, 21 y.o.

If you will go to a psychiatrist, I does'nt mean that you are crazy. instead, they will help you to find ways to cope up. admitting yourself voluntarily will be the best way. but, before you go, ask some help with your family first or even with your friends. anyways, we can be friends and please feel free to ask anything to me that might help to solve your problem. God is always with you and pray always. TNX.
