Can you recommend a notebook brand?

In the past, I've gone with cheaper models (Dell and HP). I had a bad experience with HP and an all-out nightmare with Dell, so I don't think I'll be going back. At this point I'm willing to pay a little more for something where a major component won't die every six months.

I honestly don't need much out of it other than internet and word processing, so the video card and CPU aren't ultra-important. I have a rather long walk to class, so my main concern is finding something not too heavy that isn't going to break if it gets jostled around a bit. I was thinking about switching to Mac, but those seem a bit...fragile. Am I wrong?

Any recommendations?

I always go with asus notebooks. Business class dells and hps are good too they are NOTHING like the home ones but you always get what you pay for.

If you can afford Mac go for it. Better hardware and more stable OS. Will highly recommend MAC laptop.

P.S by statistic 30-35% something will go wrong with PC laptop during a next year after you bought it.

    Cheers, DS

Try Asus if you're already out of Dell and HP. I'm a PC gamer but I also really crave for portability. Try seeing this: Asus G2s. It's great. I love it so much! Too bad I can't afford it ... yet! Ü

From my own adventure, i could settle with HP/Compaq, Dell, Acer, Asus so as. i could recommend no longer getting Acer or Asus if attainable. whether it sluggish in the past, I used to do laptop factors wholesale. Acer has damaging RMA ratio(customer return). i could in no way in my opinion purchase them. Asus makes good motherboards, yet they have not been in workstation marketplace too long, i would not even undertaking thinking it. i like Dell lots, yet quite often stripped out and made-to-in good condition. What I discovered after see you later years of messing with maximum of computers, I provide deep know to HP computers. variety DOES remember! persist with American manufacturers no longer Taiwanese manufacturers

I use a Toshiba Satellite with 1 gig of ram, which I have upgraded from 512, got a 15.4 wide screen, dvd/cd-rw, good sound, wireless, express card slot, tv out, vga out, and modem. It works great, and only cost $599 after $200 rebate..
